I got a five out of nine...
Guess that's kind of low...
Or below average...
How accurate is this thing anyway?
Do the ivy schools really use this?
hmmm...
I hate it.

From what I've read, a "5" is pretty average and where a LOT of students wind up.
These are a lot of bright, energetic students.
Trouble is...how do you pick one from another?
The trick is being able to stand out in some way.

A data note: for the class entering Dartmouth in 2000, 5's had an acceptance rate of 25 percent. Edge you AI just to 6 and the acceptance rate surges to 52 percent.

Less than 10 percent of the applicants were AI 7-9.
Nearly 2/3 were AI 1-4. Which means that AI 5-6 is the real battleground.

I got a 5 too, and i think my stats are more competitive than that. I used guidance councelor o matic on the princeton review board, which takes other things into consideration and gives you lists of reach/regular/safety schools. I thought that was a little better, but maybe i'm just in denial. Besides not all colleges use the academic index.

I got a 5 at 215 (just one more !$@*!#& point for a 6). Oh well, I'm not applying to any ivies...

When I put my gpa (weighted or unweighted) in instead of class rank, it gives me a much better score. Kind of questioning its validity...

i got an 8

do college really REALLY use that thing?

I get in the 220s when I put my SATs in with my GPA, but when I put my SATs in with my class rank, they drop significantly. I even tried putting '1' in class rank, and it was 15 or 20 points lower than the AI with my GPA.

colleges will use rank first...then GPA
