CHILLMAN will be at Harvard.

:)

By Hannajvb (Hannajvb) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 09:55 pm: Edit

Hehe, CHILL MAN? Who's that?

If I'm there, you're there buddy.

As for the picture, I'll post one if you can explain how you're such a good looking male!

You guys do know I'm a guy, right? "Mr. TL Hanna Pageant."

haha

By Congresssenator (Congresssenator) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 10:00 pm: Edit

CHILLMAN is the epitome of coolness! Of course this bonafide superhero will be rocking Cambridge.

I only wish I could be like him. ;)

By Hannajvb (Hannajvb) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 10:02 pm: Edit

Shall I begin talking about the stunning good looks and fabulous wit of the legendary NCChineseDude?

By Congresssenator (Congresssenator) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 10:05 pm: Edit

What? He's a mere peon.

By Hannajvb (Hannajvb) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 10:10 pm: Edit

And CHILL MAN is his nasty and volatile master. Which would you prefer? The underdog NCChineseDude shall break the vicious cycle of poverty when he indulges in the prestige of Cambridge.

By Congresssenator (Congresssenator) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 10:11 pm: Edit

Or shall I continue said cycle in the "slums" of New Haven?

By Haithman (Haithman) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 10:19 pm: Edit

You guys do know I'm a guy, right? "Mr. TL Hanna Pageant."

Haithman--

Could that be? A National Forensic League certificate I see on your bedstand?

Deliver me the news. I pray it is so.

By Hannajvb (Hannajvb) on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 10:23 pm: Edit

Glad you liked my pic Haithman! "Ewwww" The "Hanna" throws people off. My schools is TL Hanna. Although the other guy has a pic of a girl in his profile which is strange.

i cant believe you care so much about this one person. this is his poor attempt at masochistic behavior. *disgusted*

You're about as bright as the Alaskan sky in the middle of December.

By Hannajvb (Hannajvb) on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 04:56 pm: Edit

Aww, Fessirerum11, I'm sorry you've got your undergarments stuffed tightly up into your rear vertical orifice! Let me help!

*jerks them out and watches the grin form on Fessirerum11's face*

EDIT: Masochistic? You sure about that? Sounds like you confused it with another word off SAT Word List #52.

By Matthias (Matthias) on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 05:10 pm: Edit

I'd just like to point out that if Hanna was a girl, she would be fine. Therefore, I do not retract my "baby" comment. Yet I would like to sincerely apologize for the miscommunication. Before today, I did not have a farthing of knowledge pertaining to the existance of male beauty pageants. More POWER to you, sistah, for participating in one.

I am going with Wheaton. Here is why....the religion factor. Although a full ride is nice, UF is not religious enough and the ivies are mega $$. So, I am betting on Wheaton. :)

By Hannajvb (Hannajvb) on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 06:15 pm: Edit

YAY! Someone familiar with Wheaton!

Although I must point out that Wheaton would be a whole lot more money for me than the ivies...especially HYP. My parents' income hovers around 40K, so I would get almost a full-ride in grants. Wheaton is a terrific school though...when I applied EA, I was looking for a more conservative college. Needless to say, I've changed my mind on that and applied to some liberal schools.

EDIT: Oh my gosh, AHAHAHAHAHAAH to Mathias. Yes, my school has a male pageant...hehe, it's all but a joke. And wow, I'm called "sistah" all the time! How'd you know?!

Harvard-Rejected/Waitlist
Yale-Rejected/Waitlist
Princeton-Rejected/Waitlist
Cornell-Accepted
Dartmouth-Rejected/Waitlist

Interviewer comments almost mean nothing. They are not the adcoms so they cannot make an accurate prediction of your admissions prospects. Realistically, you have no special hook, your SAT scores are average for HYP, and your writing and IIC scores are too low. Many people take more than just three SAT IIs as well, so you aren't helping yourself there either. If you DO get into HYP or Dartmouth, feel free to rub it in my face. I would be extrememly happy for you.

By Tenaciouselle (Tenaciouselle) on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 07:07 pm: Edit

I think you could get into Cornell, Dartmouth, and perhaps one of HYP.

But who the heck really knows, anyway.

By Matt20861 (Matt20861) on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 07:20 pm: Edit

I'm sorry did you say the with your parents income at 40K you could get a almost a full-ride in grants at the ivies?
I hope your right. How much of an education at NYU would grants cover assuming my single mom's adjusted gross income is about 17K(father deceased)?

By Jem04 (Jem04) on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 08:09 pm: Edit

Harvard-Rejected
Yale-Rejected
Princeton-Rejected
Cornell-Waitlisted
Dartmouth-Waitlisted

You could possible get into one of these but you arn't terribly interesting.

By Hannajvb (Hannajvb) on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 09:13 pm: Edit

To deferreddude - hey, I wouldn't rub it in! I'm glad you're honest (and you Jem04 with the "you aren't terribly interesting" hehe)! To be honest, without prestige as a factor, Cornell is my favorite. You'll notice I put it above Dartmouth and Yale.

Anyway, the only "hook" I believe I may have lies in a couple of things: (and of course I'm extremely biased)
1) I've spent all of my teenage years living with women. Since it's so late in the admissions season, I feel comfortable posting this essay: (if you have extra time, you can read it)

A Place of Uncommon Peace

I have, as of today, lived with more women than an estimated 99.99 percent of worldwide males, not to mention more than virtually 100% of 17-18 year old males. White women, Black women, Hispanic women, Asian women, young women, old women, filthy rich women, dirt poor women, average women, educated women, sixth grade dropout women, schoolteachers, nurses, strippers (well, just one - I think), and almost everything in between—I've lived with them all, at least under the same roof.

My home is called The Shalom House. We call it “a place of uncommon peace.” The five-year story of Shalom House is interesting, but difficult to comprehend initially for those who have not experienced it firsthand. I have found this to be true especially when answering my friends' inevitable question, "Who are those ladies living in the upstairs of your house?" Shalom House, is, in short, a non-profit transitional home (or half-way house) for women who have finished drug treatment and need a place to get back on their feet before returning home. The inspiration for Shalom House sprang from my own mother's battle with drug addiction thirteen years ago that culminated with her completion of a half-way house program similar to Shalom House.

Having spent all of my formative teenage years surrounded by women with drug and alcohol problems, I have had the opportunity to meet, get to know, and truly become close to people of diverse cultures, religious beliefs, races, levels of wealth, and perspectives on life. I certainly would not be the same if I hadn't met Karen, a backwoods woman from Big Stone Gap, Virginia; or Tracy, a wealthy boarding school girl turned alcoholic; or Pamela, a waitress at Huddle House (she cooked me dinner) who was the very first of the "Shalom Ladies"; or Danielle, who lives here now, a young big-city woman from both Boston and Atlanta with no accent (the two cities neutralized each other) who treats me as her vicarious little brother for the time she's away from home. I will always be able to draw and benefit from these experiences.

When my parents first told me we were moving away from our home with the great bike-riding backyard to start a new ministry, I thought they had gone insane, as did the rest of my extended family. I knew deep down, however, that if this future ministry was deemed important enough to remove me from childhood friends, something terrific must surely be in store. To say the least, I was right. After going through these past few years, from helping with the initial remodeling work to daily interaction with the women, I consider having been part of Shalom House’s many life-changing experiences a true privilege.

So I'm unique in that way.

I'm also from SC and my parents didn't attend college. So, as one can tell from this chances thread, who knows?

Seth.....
Don't count out Princeton.
I am assuming that you applied. If your essays strike the heart of the adcoms then you have a chance. You seem to have some interesting EC's
and personal qualities. If you make it there be sure to inquire of the PEF. Princeton Evangelical Fellowship. Great group of people. BTW..I think that you made a wise choice in the schools that you have chosen. Wheaton would have been a great choice over some prison schools like Liberty and Pensacola Christian.

By Hannajvb (Hannajvb) on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 10:20 am: Edit

Thanks for the encouragement on Princeton Notgollum...If I get in, I will ask you for more detailed info on PEF.

UPDATE: I got 1st-Runner up in the Mr. TL Hanna Pageant. Hehe, I never would've put myself placing in a beauty pageant - that's for sure! So you guys can continue calling me baby now if you like!
