By Wharton c/o 2005 on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 07:23 pm: Edit

Here is a little news flash for all you smart asses who think community college is worthless. I recently transfered from Hillsboroough Community College to the Wharton School of business at the University of Pennsylvania. I got a 1070 on the SAT's while in high school, and I decided that the best choice for me was to go to a CC for two years. I ended up being accepted into the honors institute at the CC and maintained a 3.8 gpa throughout. Now I am on my way to UPENN and I actually had a life in high school!!! This is the sweetest revenge to all of you 4.0 1500's that were rejected from penn. By the way, last year my friend transfered from the same CC to Cornell. Everyone who cannot get into their dream college should really look into different programs at their local community college.

By blah on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 07:29 pm: Edit

Congrats.

The one thing I hate about your post is the arrogant "I actually had a life!!!" part.

By Microcephalic (Microcephalic) on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 08:31 pm: Edit

All of you "OH SWEET JESUS, I GOT A SINGLE B! MY ENTIRE FUTURE IS NOTHING BUT RUBBISH!"-happy morons could learn from this, you know.

There is hope.

By u dumbass on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 08:59 pm: Edit

umm...big whoop...u didnt make it the first time so u wasted two years and got accepted now... yay...really something to be proud about...

By Wharton c/o 2005 on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 09:13 pm: Edit

Here's the thing "u dumbass", I am going to attend Wharton, and you are not. I didn't waste 2 years, I spent two years working to achieve my goals. And yes, being accepted to Wharton IS something to be proud of, even if I had to spend 2 years at a CC. So, whethere you like it or not, I am going to attend the #1 undergraduate business school in the country!!

By tough guy on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:16 pm: Edit

hmm they only accepted you to rpove that they accept people from all walks of life. its kinda like affirmative action for those less intelligent. i wish you the best of luck, if your life and wherever you go, but i know plenty of warton grads who cant find jobs, it has more to do with who you know and your work ethic, and a 3.8 at a CC isnt very impressive so im going to extrapolate and say your dumb and wont go anywhere

By haha@u! on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:19 pm: Edit

ha ha. i am glad u feel the need to brag to strangers warton c/o 2005. i am going to say that you need a life. ha ha.

By meryl285 on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:21 pm: Edit

haha@u!
perhaps you are the one who needs a life. You're just jealous of our friend warton here. Why dont you just eat shight haha??

By hahameryl285 on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:26 pm: Edit

No jealousy at all buddy. I got accepted Yale, princeton, harvard, penn, and stanford last year. kiss that my friend. lol

By get a life on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:28 pm: Edit

you're a liar, hahameryl

and a loser too.

By meryl285 on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:31 pm: Edit

hmmmmm....
why am i so doubtful of that. Got into all these school ay?? Hmm...seems a little strange if you ask me. Got into some great schools (many, if you dont mind) and flaunts his jealousy all over a message board desinged for ppl who are trying to get into school. After all, the title of the forum is "what are my chances?" My question is: what are the chances that an idiot like yourself can ever make it into a community college. What are the chances that a brilliant yale student like yourself would ever even visit such a message board?? The closest you'll ever be to a college at all is the public library you piece of sh*t.

As for you warton, congrats. I admire your ambition and diligence.

By HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:36 pm: Edit

HA HA I made you mad and thus I win. Game over. You died.

By meryl on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:40 pm: Edit

actually, HA HA HA HA, judging by the defense you've put up against my comments and inquiry, I think that i'm learning something about you. So all i'm going to say is this: anybody who has such a low self esteem as to come on to a message board and announce false statements about academic success is very very sad. You are sad my friend. You have a very low self esteem. Perhaps you should work on that rather than sitting here and writing out your far-away dreams as reality.

By sully on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:41 pm: Edit

yea, you pathetic whore

By meryl on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:47 pm: Edit

sully
who's the pathetic whore? me?

By sully on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:48 pm: Edit

no, the loser you were talking about.

By asdf on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:49 pm: Edit

Well, the disadvantage to a CC is that many merit-based scholarships require that you go to a well-known school. The last time I checked, Hillsborough Community College was not a prestigious school.

By sully on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:50 pm: Edit

so, he scored. all the better for him. are you jealous or bitter or somethin, asdf

By asdf on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:53 pm: Edit

I'm not jealous. I'm just pointing out a disadvantage to going to CC. And personally, I wouldn't want to go to a CC not because it's not a good school, but the town I live in is Dullsville.

By incognito on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 10:57 pm: Edit

Whatever
The bottom line is this:
warton, you defied the system. Congrats. Ppl like you are desperately needed to dispell this whole CC stereotype sh*t. You did well, and you're going to a good school. I dont know if you will ever be reading this message, but i decided to write it so other ppl can see for themselves. You'r proof that Ascending academically IS possible, feasable, and happens. Congrats!

By meryl on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 12:09 am: Edit

Actually, now that I think about it, I am sorry for making fun of that person. I realize that my friend is bragging, and I am stupid for getting online and making assumptions about people I don't even know. So to "ha ha" I publicly apologize for my rude and judgmental behavior. I have no right to insult people I don't know and I am beg for forgiveness. I am an ugly person on the outside, but that does not give me a reason to be ugly on the inside. Sorry ha ha.

By sully on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 12:11 am: Edit

whoever just impersonated meryl needs to get a life even moreso than the loser he made "fun" of... or could it still be that same person who has stooped to yet an even lower level? hahaha why don't you make ME "apologize" too, you f*ing retard?

By meryl on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 12:12 am: Edit

^^I did NOT write THAT last post there (the 12:09 one, HA HA wrote it). Very very clever, though HA HA. your quite the ingenius one indeed. Unfortunately the very fact that you had to take somebody else's AME to apologize to yourself just reveals your own delicate insecurities. Have a nice day loser, and good luck getting to the library

By meryl on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 12:14 am: Edit

Again, I don't know who's impersonating me, but they are ignorant and please ignore their childish games. Losers like that shouldn't write on this board.

By meryl on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 12:15 am: Edit

Ok, so here are the "impersinated meryls" that this f*cking loser has concocted thus far:

the 12:09 post
and
the 12:14 post

having fun, HA HA?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHO THE F* IS SO PATHETIC THAT THEY HAVE TO PRETEND THEY WERE APOLOGIZED TO B/C THEY KNOW THEY'RE A PIECE OF SH!T INSIDE AND THE REAL APOLOGY WILL NEVER HAPPEN? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

true, true

By qwe on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 02:47 am: Edit

you realize that 99% of the people on this board are talking out of their ass, right?

i am highly skeptical of your wharton claim.

By J on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 04:04 am: Edit

Wharton c/o 2005,

I just wondered if you could give me some advice on transfering from a cc to an elite school. What part of your application helped you the most? Did you retake the SAT's or anything?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

J

By wharton c/o 2005 on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 04:10 pm: Edit

Hey, "J" I didn't have to retake the SAT's. First of all, I think the fact that I graduated with honors was a big role. I was heavily involved in different organizations, as well as a few study trips around the country. The honors program at HCC was a group of about 75 students, so we had individual attention from our professors and also were able to travel and study around the country. One of my friends was accepted to Wellesly and another to Cornell, and all were graduate from HCC honors program. Just work hard and make sure you get good grades, and you should have no problem getting into a great school.

By marym on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 05:22 pm: Edit

i say congratulations. i have attended two prestigious universities, as well as community college. the students i encountered at community college were not "dumb". believe it or not, they were of the same intellectual calliber as the students at the "real" colleges. there was absolutely no difference. the only noticable difference was in the professors, and this was slight. most of my professors at cc have phds from harvard and georgetown. community college is a wise option for those uncertain 18 year olds who want to figure out what they want to do with their life...on a budget. so for all you pretentious and pathetically insecure students out there putting poor wharton down: you have a lot to learn about the world. the man pumping your gas could be smarter than you. thus is life.

By Hopeful on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 06:36 pm: Edit

Wharton, may I ask what kind of extracurriculars you did because I'm considering taking the same pathway as you to a "higher" college as opposed to just going to a college you don't want to go to anyways. I've really never been an "extracurricular" kind of person, I'm not in any clubs or any sports (because I'm too weak physically), I do a lot of elementary school tutoring though, but that's about it. I'm fairly sure I could get a GPA up there with yours, but it's the extracurricular part which could be the difference between me getting in and not - or would it be?

By wharton c/o 2005 on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 08:31 pm: Edit

To tell you the trutch, most of the colleges I applied to as a transfer student did not look at extra-curricular activities. Tulane, for example, was one of the universities that based admission solely on your gpa. However, UPENN was one school that looked at everyhting. I was head of the honors institute study abroad group. I volunteered quite a few hours tutoring students. I also joined several organizations on campus, anything to build up my resume.

By Down with snotty posters on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 10:12 pm: Edit

Guys, relax about this guy. Wharton undergrad is nothing to write home about - the graduate school is the superstar - a world of difference.

meryl don't be so harsh, you made me cry...please take it back, I'm sitting here crying like a 5yr old girl who lost her dolly. meryl you are my new god, I just realized I'm an •••••••.

By meryl on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 10:58 pm: Edit

who who who!!!! What the f*ck just happened?? What are you talking about?

By congrats on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 - 11:13 pm: Edit

"down with snotty posters" you are a moron. PENN has the #1 undergrad business program in the country, yet the grad program is not even top 5. Get to know your facts you loser. Getting into Wharton undergrad is something to be very proud of.

By newb on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 02:08 am: Edit

If what you said is really true, I truly am proud of you. I think I could relate to you in some ways. I am currently a senior, and awaiting my decisions from the colleges I applied to. The thing is, I don't think I'll get into my "dream" schools. Maybe I could do what you did? Little ray of hope...

By fe on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 08:54 am: Edit

hey wharton, how is it that you've gotten revenge? are you mad becaused you did not get accepted initially? no one stabbed you in the back to get there, they worked hard. oh and im sure they had lives too. you arrogant whore.

By Ethansele (Ethansele) on Monday, April 07, 2003 - 12:42 am: Edit
