Is harvard as good as MIT in engineering?
By engineer on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 02:41 pm: Edit
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? First of all, no one is as good as MIT in engineering. Second of all, Harvard has terrible engineering. Third, if you want to go to an ivy league engineering school, go to Cornell. They are the only ivy with a good engineering program.
By Sabzevarian (Sabzevarian) on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 02:55 pm: Edit
Well if you're planning to work out of the country, the name Harvard is king. Then again, MIT is also famous everywhere.
By aa on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 03:28 pm: Edit
what are the strongest majors in harvard? and don't people in harvard take some courses in MIT. So thats why I ask...
By mit_hopeful on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 06:31 pm: Edit
harvard and mit students are allowed to cross register. mit liberal arts majors can take classes at harvard and harvard eng majors take classes at mit.
By well on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 07:34 pm: Edit
MIT's engineering is better. I'm not sure about pure science -- I think Caltech and Princeton are better. Harvard is probably better than MIT at everything else.
By incognito on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 07:36 pm: Edit
yeah, I always hear that Caltech is the top authority in engineering. Its EXTREMELY competitive though.
By werewr on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 07:46 pm: Edit
No, Caltech is more into theoretical science, whereas, MIT is all about applied science, aka engineering.
I got this from doing interviews for both those schools and asking the alumni.
I personally don't know why anyone would major in the humanities at MIT...
By aa on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 10:25 pm: Edit
so Caltech is better than MIT? and if you major in engineer in HARVARD you will be really studying at MIT? So its the same to study engineer in MIT than in HARVARD?
By Jason817 (Jason817) on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 10:37 pm: Edit
MIT is #1 in the country in engineering. Caltech, harvard, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Carnegie are below it but still top 10.
By wer on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 10:58 pm: Edit
no, harvard is like #40 in engineering
By aa on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 11:20 pm: Edit
can someone give me a page where i can find exact stats. but the good thing about harvard is that if you want to change you have almost all options they are all good...at least overall. Engineering should also be high since its a very important major.
By werwer on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 11:24 pm: Edit
stop being ignorant.
OH IT IS HARVARD, IT MUST BE GOOD AT EVERYTHING.
no, harvard sucks at science, period.
By aa on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 11:26 pm: Edit
so harvard is good at---------?
By meryl46 on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 11:30 pm: Edit
HUMANITIES (and that little reputation it seems to have built for itself)

By TRUTH on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 04:06 pm: Edit
hey fools, Harvard is good for humanities and pure science. For engineering it's not 40, but 20. You can cross register at MIT and Wellesley if you go to Harvard. MIT is great for economics, business, and obviously engineering. Wellesley is great for psych, english, and neuroscience. The top engineering schools below MIT are Caltech, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Univ. Illinois-UC, and GeorgiaTech.
By ewwe on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 07:06 pm: Edit
no you fag, caltech rapes harvard in pure science
By skdjh on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 07:22 pm: Edit
Humanities: Harvard, Caltech-MIT (equally bad if compared to Harvard)
Pure Science: Caltech, MIT, Harvard
Engineering: MIT-Caltech (close), Harvard
By sorry on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 07:24 pm: Edit
Wait, sorry, Harvard is better than MIT at pure science
By wer on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 07:25 pm: Edit
MIT also has a great business program (sloan), a close second to wharton.
As far as chicks go.. harvard > MIT > Caltech.
Caltech is pathetic in the chick department... there isn't a single person there that i would date.

Cal Poly...kicks butt!!!!!
By aa on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 09:00 pm: Edit
so a harvard student that majored in engineer will have the knowledge of a mit student?
will a mit student that majored in humanities have the knowledge of a harvard student?

no you dumb , no one would respect a Harvard degree in engineering, or an MIT degree in humanities, no matter where you took the classes from.

Honestly, I wouldn't go to Harvard undergrad if I didn't know exactly what I was going there for. If you want a school that's a safe bet for practically any program you want to do, look at the University of Michigan. Undergrad Business - #3, Engineering - #2, Overall - #25, not to mention almost every other department it has is in the top 10. Great school, great college town, great sports, great parties, great everything. The only negative might be the size, but I actually like the bigger schools.

I need help.... I was acceptedto both HArvard and MIT through the early action program... I dont know which school I should choose...Can anyone help me!!! BTW I am planning to mayor in biochemistry or chemistry
By science vs. engineering on Saturday, February 08, 2003 - 02:16 am: Edit
If you like any parts of the theoretical aspects of biochem or chem, go to Harvard. If you are dead sure that you want engineering-type chem or biochem (chemical engineering), go to MIT.
MIT is a great engineering school. However, It's not so great at pure science because of its emphasis on engineering and practicality.
By obie on Saturday, February 08, 2003 - 12:24 pm: Edit
"me: this is the best conversation I HAD ever read"
I suppose you're a harvard/princeton prospective.
One more reason not to favor the ivies.

OK guys...
It is very simple...
No doubt that MIT is better than Harvard in engineering.
For anything else, go to Harvard.
Both schools are extremely respected internationally

If you have no idea what you wanna major in, go to Stanford or Cornell. These are the two most well rounded private schools in the nation, both very highly regarded. Both of these schools have a top 20 program in pretty much everything you can think of. You can never go wrong with either of these schools.

how is cornell ranked nationally?

harvard arose from place 21st in engineering to place 17 ... an improvement is in progress...BETTER THAN PRINCETON
