Hey, I'm a junior in hs and want to major in fashion design. I'm aware of Wash U Ive League Status but do you guys think I'll have a hard time getting in seeing that I do want to major in fashion and come on it is fashion. My stats aren't close to the average . I do have like a 3.7 unweighted but sat score is like 1000.

By Culovv (Culovv) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 04:37 am: Edit

Major doesn't matter unless there is a seperate school for fashion. Wash U is not ivy league. hth.

By Farrahday (Farrahday) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 09:41 am: Edit

sat is way too low

By Chen (Chen) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 11:18 am: Edit

Are your ECs geared towards fashion design? Do you take challenging courses> Then you have a shot.

By I1lmatics (I1lmatics) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 12:10 pm: Edit

you need to add about 400 points to your sat.. highly doubtful

By Deeny1414 (Deeny1414) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 05:43 pm: Edit

I1lmatics, what a stupid comment. You obviously know nothing about college admissions if you think that a 1400 is the only chance at WUSTL. I know someone who got into Tisch with a 1090, simply because she had a ton of talent. If you want to improve your chances, study some more for your SATs, but don't think getting a 1400 is the only way you'll get in. If you have talent and you make it ostensible, you have a good shot.

Hmm, in a way, I1lmatics does have a point. This person does not appear to be a URM, and you also have to take into account that WUSTL is a burgeoning uni, which wants to maintain its reputation in terms of selectivity. A 1400 may not be the only way to be admitted, but it sure gets a foot in the door.

As of now, I would say that this candidate has "no chance" at WUSTL. Just my 2 Cents.

SAT's aren't everything. I only made a 26 ACT (equivalent to a 1190 SAT) and a 1090 SAT and i was offfered admittance to NYU's GSP.

By the way. I am vietnamese

By Farrahday (Farrahday) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 06:31 pm: Edit

But tisch has an emphasis on drama-Wustl doesn't have an emphasis on fashion design. Maybe I am wrong and there is at their arts school. But for regular admission, your chances are low.

By Hnbui (Hnbui) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 06:35 pm: Edit

I applied to NYU's College of Arts and Science

By I1lmatics (I1lmatics) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 09:00 pm: Edit

nyu gsp admissions are on a totally different level than WUSTL

deeny how much you want to bet that the op won't get into wustl with a 1000 sat?

By Becks777 (Becks777) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 09:01 pm: Edit

Liek0806 dont listen to the offensive word edited on this site. Talent may matter but obviously u cant acquire a talent in a year. And more importantly unless you r truly unique- a lot of people will have the same talents as you do. The only way- and yes the only way for you to get in is by getting a good SAT score and increasing your GPA. No one in my school last year got into WASHU with less than 1400 on the SAT

By Hnbui (Hnbui) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 10:03 pm: Edit

I1lmatics

I have read posts of some people who had 1400+ and based on your statments those people should have gotten into the original school, usually NYU's College of Arts and Science, but they didn't.

What i was trying to prove was that
SAT's aren't everything. I would advise the op to study for the SAt "just to increase" his or her chance at getting admitted.

And be sure to applied to other schools.

I currently am an 16 yr old senior and am not ashamed of my 3.5 unw GPA and my 26 ACT.

BTW the first and only time i took the SAT, during the summer after my junior year, i made a 1090.

Tisch is completely different... that is based half on academics, half on talent/portfolio review... they say so. At WashU exceptional talent wouldn't really be much more than a tip factor... you have to get in based on academics, and sorry, a 1000 won't cut it 99.9% of the time.

By Liek0806 (Liek0806) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 10:45 pm: Edit

Personally I'm not ashamed of my score. I mean I hear everyone on these message boards talking about they have 1500's 1400's and so on but it doesn't bother me because that doesn't mean they're better than me. I know some girl who went to my high school last year who didn't meet graduation requirements and was still accepted into NYU.

By I1lmatics (I1lmatics) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 10:54 pm: Edit

Hnibui what in the hell are you talkin about?

"I1lmatics

Since when did this discussion have anyhting to do with NYU's college of arts and sciences? or even NYU's GSP for that matter. This discussion is about WUSTL, which happens to be a much harder school to get into than nyu. A 1000 won't cut it for wustl. That's all.

By Liek0806 (Liek0806) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 11:21 pm: Edit

ok i get the point now so i got my answer most of you guys are annoying repeating what the other one says.

By I1lmatics (I1lmatics) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 11:27 pm: Edit

i'm not saying not to apply, i think you should.. just be realistic about the whole thing though and have some solid backup choices

try to bump that sat up u still got sometime

By Riesenmy (Riesenmy) on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 11:50 pm: Edit

just out of curiosity... why wash u if you want to go into fashion design? does it have an exceptionally good fashion program? i have no clue, i'm just wondering. i would assume there would be just-as-good or better fashion design schools at less selective universities, ones at which you'll have decent/good shots. but with "like 1000" on the SAT, it's really a snowflake's chance right now. if your heart is set on going to wash u, first set your heart on raising the SAT score. then you'll have more of a legitimate shot.

Anybody can say whatever they want, but the truth is that a 1400 SAT score is darn near mandatory at such a prestigious school. Otherwise, you'll have to bank on major ECs or other outstanding (and I mean outstanding) credentials on your application. A 1000 SAT will get you not even a second look. There are ways to boost your SAT score without boosting intelligence however. Take some classes and good luck.
