If you have a relative that graduated from a school you r applying 2..does that help your chances of getting in?

in a lot of cases, yes. that's why most applications have a section asking you if a relative went to or worked at their school.

Preferably your parents, that really helps a lot.

It also depends on the school. Older, conservative schools like Washington & Lee place a good amount of weight on legacy status.

It's a big plus, but it doesn't guarantee admission. For example, if you're a legacy with a 2.1 and 900 SAT 1, you won't get into that Ivy league school (unless your parents donated $50 million to the school before you apply)

^*cough* Bush *cough*^
But realy, when I visited UCSB I asked if having a brother attending the school already would help my chances and to my disapointment, the guide said not really.
