College Discussion Forums: What Are My Chances?: March 2004 Archive: Chances for ucsd, ucsb
By Johnsmith00 (Johnsmith00) on Monday, March 01, 2004 - 09:00 pm: Edit

i'm really worried... i got rejected from UC Irvine and UC RIVERSIDE today... yeah i got rejected from RIVERSIDE... this is quite possibly the most depressing feeling i've had in quite a while...

even if riverside and irvine don't like me, is there a chance that i could get into sb or sd? i didnt get that letter from sb that other people on this forum did, so i'm guessing that my chance at sb isn't too great.

my stats:
GPA - 4.1 (3.6 unweighted)
SAT I - 1410 (740 math, 670 verbal)
SAT II - 740 writing, 760 math 2c, 800 us history, 690 German
Rank - 93/620
Extracurricular stuff - 4 years of baseball (2 years varsity), 4 years cross country (3 years varsity), president of German club for two years, senior class president, very involved with my church

my biggest problem is my lack of community service, i only did about 20 hours and that was during my freshman year.

anyone heard of people getting rejected from UCR and getting into the other UCs? UCI and UCR were my backups, and i'm seriously scared that i'll end up at a community college this fall.

How did you get rejected and I get in? I'm out of state and you still have much better stats... Something isn't right.

I hope the UC's don't pre-arrange for like me to get in Riverside and no where else, cuz that would suck...

That would also be illegal, would it not? For them to share your data with other schools without your consent?

hmmm

This is just conjecture, but i do believe, because of the budget cuts they are rejecting extemely highly qualified students from the lower UC's assuming, not necessarily sharing, you will get in somewhere else. But thats just what ive heard.

Jeez, I hope you get in to one of the 'better' UCs. Your stats are really similar to mine it's eerie. Good luck.

Don't sweat it man. I heard that the invitation you are talking about for UCSB, was not associated with acceptance (but what isn't). I know for a fact that the "lesser" UCs reject over qualified appicants because they know that there is no chance that the student is actually going to choose them over UCLA and such. Just wait it out, if nothing happens by the 20th or 30th, then u can worry.

you share my gpa sat and class rank. exactly. same math 2c, only difference is a lower writing and physics (Both 690)

really this has nothing to do with the topic but i thought i'd share anyway. i applied to berkeley and ucsb from new york. good luck

There is a poster with very nice stats who was rejected by UCI--none of us could believe it. When he checked with UCI, it turned out that someone of his same name had withdrawn his UC applications (had gotten in early at Stanford). The computer accidentally withdrew the wrong applications. It's worth a check (especially if your name really IS John Smith).

i really think its similar to what jimsta said, they probably think you would never ever want to go there, so they rejected you.. they let me in, and i have the same gpa as you, but my sats are lower by at least 200~300 total, i'm pretty sure you'll get in at some of the better uc's, dont stress man!

Dude if u appeal to UCR and UCI u will get in for sure. My friend got into UCR w/ 3.0 and 1080.

They have a 85% acceptance rate for crying out loud.

U're more than fine, relax dude. U sure u got rejected or is all a dream?

Ok, you are WAY overqualified for both. What happened? They assumed you applied as backups, and prolly chose kids that would go there. Don't worry. You HAD to have applied to the higher UC's, that's why they reserved a spot for you there. Don't worry, trust me, I know the UC system WELL. They almost did you a favor :) BTW- To what other UC's did you apply?
