Okay, "stats" are dumb and crazy, but it's fun sometimes. And I've recently fallen head over heels for the big Bryn and have been worrying like a maniac; would like advice as to A. keep worrying, or B. calm down, because you have an okay chance. I just don't know about Bryn Mawr and how their admissions process works ... I know I have the SAT scores to get in, but who knows. If any of you have gotten in or know about this loveable college and you have comments that are helpful, please, type! Thank you!

Hard facts:
SAT I: 740 verbal, 620 math
SAT II: 800 writing, 770 French, 650 math IIC
GPA: 4.4 weighted, 3.6 unweighted
Top 13% at high-ranked, difficult, well-known public high school
APs: 4 science, 4 french lang, 4 u.s. history, 5 french lit, 5 english lit, 2/subscore 3 calculus bc (ugh), 4 u.s. gov & politics. Lots of honors classes and also took Italian classes at nearby college during senior year of high school, though had to audit one semester 'cause I'm kind of poor. Ugh.
White female from the Southeast.
Interview: went okay, I think, it was a phone interview so it was all strange like that. But I expressed myself intelligently and shared what I liked about the school and my intellectual passions.
Campus visit: none so far, and they don't offer tours any more for a while so I'm just doing one myself this weekend.
Have contacted some profs and gotten some nice, long letters back, but don't think they will be recommending me to the admissions office or anything cool like that.

The other stuff:
Major commitments in theater and music; involved in intensive, demanding, competitive theater program for three out of four years. Leading roles onstage and backstage. Major acting and technical theater commitment with rehearsals lasting until 12, ridiculously hard to keep up with work at the same time. Member of 3 school choirs (1 grade 10, 2 grade 11, 2, one an honors choir by audition grade 12), founder and co-director of one of them. Member of one community choir by audition as well.

Played on tennis team 3 years.

Lots of volunteer work in the arts outside of the classroom, both in school and community theaters.

Babysitting business year-round and lots of summer work, not from a wealthy family, fee waiver.

Gap year including foreign travel and language work, volunteer work, and work at a well-known professional theater.

Awards/Honors: NHS, French NHS 3 years, 10th in state on Nat'l French Exam, Nat'l Merit Commended. Accepted to and attended prestigious conservatory summer program (2% of applicants accepted).

(NOTE: Sophomore year went really badly with a few C's. Like, 3, and a D. But!!!! I made straight A's nearly from then on, and explained why it happened -- had just gotten involved in crazy-demanding-difficult-time-consuming theater program in a lead role (my first time in a production) and had stage managed another AND took a difficult schedule, so bombed math and chem but rebounded well and stuff and went on through calculus and all that good stuff -- wow, this sounds utterly terrible and screwed up but I explained it well on the app, like why, and how I learned from it and changed from it, in a non-immature way! Gaaah. Okay, I probably should have put this at the bottom, don't collectively sigh and run away and neglect my other stuff. :))

Hi Ophelia... I've seen your posts in the LAC section of CC. I think you have very good chances and I say that with sincerity. I think you have very good stats and I think you are a very committed person. Also- if the admissions officers from your schools could see how passionate you are about going to a great college, they would snatch you in a second. lol Best of luck! :)

I would say you'd get in. Your verbal score is higher than their average. Your math is lower, but you have nice SAT II's and extracurriculars.

If you visit, meet with the person reading your app. I met with the person reading mine (peaches!) and I think that's a great help. Make sure they KNOW you visited.

Wow! How do you do that, exactly? I didn't know that was possible. I'm just going to walk into the office Saturday and say hi, I'm visiting, and see if there are interest cards or something for me to fill out. Are you a future or current Mawrtyr, Warehouse?

Guydoll ... thanks for the encouragement!

Ugh, they don't KNOW I visited. I never called. I have been awarded 2 scholarships for foreign study but I don't know if I should still call and tell them about it, or if they have already made decisions. Sigh. I am so so so nervous.

Warehouseeyes! Are you going to Bryn Mawr for sure? I also met Theresa Peaches-Valdes! I don't believe that she was the one who read my application but I had an interview with her last winter and she also called me to tell me I was accepted Fall ED. She was very friendly and very nice, just like everyone that I've met from Bryn Mawr! :)
