is this essay good for rutgers univ????????
Coming from a Croatian family, traditions are imperative. Croatians love to cook, eat, drink, sing, dance, and just have fun. These traditions have been with me since the first day I attended kolo, which is Croatian for a “dance gathering”, until today, where all we speak in our house is an English-Croatian dialect. I value my heritage and try to share it with everyone I can.
Over the years, my friends have learned various parts of the Croatian language. After hearing me speak with my parents, they curiously ask the meaning of certain words. I have no idea why, but ironically they’re always bad words! “Suti” they say, which means shut up. I just ignore them.
My friends also love my mothers Croatian cookies and secret recipes that she has in her “encyclopedia thick” cookbook. Of course though, they can’t read it because it’s written in a secret language, Croatian. My mother makes these special cookies that resemble peaches, yet taste like heaven. I gave them to two of my friends on two separate occasions, and they both said they wanted to buy a batch from my mother, and that they would pay me for them. I must admit, they are the best tasting cookies I have ever had.
Moving to a new community will provide me the ability to learn about other various cultures that have deep histories. I want to learn about customs and traditions that exist not just in Croatia, but in various other countries. Interacting and making friends with people on campus will give me this opportunity. A broad knowledge about various cultures will help me mold who I become and how I think.
I love to teach my friends different aspects about Croatian culture and share its vast traditions with them. Being Croatian is a part of who I am, and always will be. My children will speak Croatian, and they will know of their heritage. I hope I can share this heritage and tradition, and also learn about other cultures with the community of people I will meet at Rutgers University.

I would give this a 5... you talk about traditions being imperative, so maybe you should write about these traditions, and how you feel about them...

The essay for Rutgers University is optional. As long as you have decent grades and SAT scores, you have a VERY good chance of getting in. The acceptance rate is something like 60% and the school is huge. They don't even ask for recommendations. Their decisions take less than 2 weeks to make.

But college essays don't have to be formal--they're supposed to give a sense of your voice!

eh. its fine. for a regular essay, 6 out of 10, for a college essay maybe a 4. but thats with 5 being average. It's rutgers so i wouldnt worry too much about it. you should probably be able to get in anyway.
