Will having an 800 in sat II writing give me an edge in some of the ivy's? A lot of people seem to be able to get a perfect score in the maths and sciences, but i only have 710 math I and 720 bio. Does anyone know whether colleges will be impressed by this or is it not really a big deal to them?

I scored a 760 Writing(71 MCQ, 77 Writing sample) So, you think you're better than me, do you? DO YOU? No, no, you are not better than me... just because you filled in 3 -- yes that's right -- three more correct MCQ's than I did does not make you a better applicant that I AM !!! DAMMIT !!! 3 questions !!!!! 3 questions !!!! what the hell !!!!
joking.... yea it looks good, specially if it's backed-up by a good verbal score. Cummon man, you didn't need to come to a message board to find that out!!!!
I'm still proud of my 760, and you're not better than me!!! Or shall I say, in a very SAT II writing MCQ way, "you're not better than I AM" !!!

no it's not a big deal...who would accept an applicant just because of an 800 in writing??? focus on other strengths

ha, 760? That would be so nice. I personally think I got screwed on my essay. (72 mc, 48 essay) = 650 :-/

You know something?
The first time I took the SAT II Writing, I got a 670. Because I had no idea that they would ask me to write an essay. I got 800 on MC and 430 on the writing. I also got an 800 on my SAT 1 Verbal. I hate the SAT's.

i got an 790 writing, 730 us history and 640 (yes 640!) math iic (which was a pain in the @$$) and i'm now a freshman at yale-- great job on the writing, wish i had gotten 1 more q right to get that 800 too - writing is the most important of the SAT II's though the only ivy that admits this is cornell

yeah, obviously an 800 writing score is an edge (no, really?), but how much?
thing is, i have an 800 writing sat2 and my others are lower (low 700s and high 600s). i always see 800 math scores and stuff though, but rarely 800 writing scores.
is this just a little edge, or a really big, important edge for an ivy? i hear writing is the most important (and hardest to do well on for most people)...

Really? I always thought Writing was supposed to be easier. Almost everyone I know who's taken it has gotten the 800, The few exceptions were all 750+. I myself have always been better in maths than English at school, but when I took the November SAT II's, I got an 800 in Writing without prepping and a 770 in IIC (don't be deceived; it's 83%) with a week of prep. =(
