I'd say your chances are pretty strong, what colleges are you applying to?
By Internationalcc (Internationalcc) on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 - 01:42 pm: Edit
Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences only

SAT score?
By Tongtransfer (Tongtransfer) on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 - 05:55 pm: Edit
Yeah, it all depends on SAT score and High School GPA...seriously. A 4.0 at a community college will "probably" not make up for a low SAT and poor GPA.
What did you do for World Bank?
By Internationalcc (Internationalcc) on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 - 05:58 pm: Edit
I did not take SAT's cuz I did not have to. They do not require it at Cornell for transfers. HS GPA 3.95.

World Bank - Project Assistant
Balkans Credit/Loan Portfolio

Why everbody looks so negatively and down on community colleges? Courses are as hard and basically equal to those first two years at 4-year college or university (general education courses)? Why transfer then if there are no incentives for CC students?
By Sokkerdude4 (Sokkerdude4) on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 - 07:57 pm: Edit
wait wait...you got a 3.95 in HS and went to a community college because....?
By Internationalcc (Internationalcc) on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 - 08:13 pm: Edit
I am an international, and my parents are unemployed and many other reasons like war, harsh life and poverty...I am lucky I saved this much [working hard] to support the CC cost!
By South1985 (South1985) on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 - 08:28 pm: Edit
If you transfer from a community college they dont look at your SATS i dont think, community college is beneficial based on the fact that you get more individual study with professors

South1985
The one I am attending is ranked among best community colleges in Florida [if not the best]. Some professors have PhD's from Brown, Yale, Harvard, Princeton... Honestly I am not putting to much hope into this transfer cuz I know it's a big shot and I do not want to get disappointed evenutally but I dont want to be discriminated against just because I am a comm. college transfer!
:-) smile, tomorrow is another day

Just to let you know, your TOEFL score would have been erased by ETS. You only can keep your score for 2 yrs after the toefl test

Sammywu:
I know but I still have the hard copy which Cornell wants me to send. I already asked them. It is the official student TOEFL/TWE score sheet and they said it's fine! I'll go with it + English teacher rec's and writing samples should say enough about my language skills!

I think you have a great change with your grades, experience, and recommendations. What other schools are you looking at? Its weird because I could have sworn Cornell required SAT I Scores for transfer students. I guess they changed it...

lastly i totally agree, i think going to a CC (especially a good one) is a great idea. I took some classes at a good one in california a while back and my professors were some of the best ive had from top schools too. good for you!

FROM CORNELL TRANSFER SITE:
In addition to completing an admission application, you may need to know about and fulfill some special admission requirements for the particular undergraduate college you're applying to at Cornell. All seven of the colleges require that you send us:
official high school and college transcripts
two letters of recommendation---one from your college advisor or dean; and one from someone who can attest to your intellectual and personal promise
SAT I or ACT scores if you have taken these standardized tests previously (If you haven't taken either test, you do not need to take one now.)
international students: TOEFL
Kyle I appreciate your positive view of comm. colleges. The equality is what matters!
I am only applyting to Cornell this Fall as it's my dream school. About others I'll think about during the summer or in the fall, if this transfer fails! Thank you again!
