You are in b/c you are a TX resident.
By vuat on Friday, January 17, 2003 - 01:17 pm: Edit
not really it all depends on which school in UT he wants to attend. from your info so far id say you would get into liberal arts. ur GPA is killing you.
id say no chance at business school unless somehow with ur gpa u were still top 1, 2, or 3% of your class.

i am from Bangladesh. my sat score is 1020. math 660 verbal 360 what are my chances?
By vuat on Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 12:24 am: Edit
really cant say. low scores arent favorable for internationals. go for 1200+ at least. try to improve verbal or take TOEFL
By intnat on Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 08:07 am: Edit
Bull vuat! As an international student, with english as a second language, they will ignore the verbal and double the math to get an estimated composite score. pseudo-SAT=660*2=1320.
All muntassir has to do is to score well on his TOEFL. If he does poorly, then he will have problems being accepted.

LOL thanx.. i havent applied yet...deadline drawin near.
argh... i cant stand the fact that i have to do 3 essays for austin. i also amnt really happy that both a and m and austin are HUGE schools. id prefer a more cohesive group. i suppose that would mean more students per class as well... and im dead bent on individual attention. oh well...

I just remembered that I had a rec from a UT graduate, though on the rec she didn't say she was one. so how great would that help my chances?

By Pat57575 (Pat57575) on Monday, January 20, 2003 - 07:12 pm: Edit
internationalgal, you should recycle some of your old essays for UT-- even if they don't quite follow the prompt. Your chances of getting rejected are extremely slim.
By diggler on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 - 12:53 am: Edit
no
UT uses the Top 10% rule for texas hs graduates. they did away with AA like 7 yrs back.
(by the way that means that any tx grad that graduates in the top 10% of his/her class has to be accepted to any public higher learning institution in texas)
like in my school our valevictorian scored a 840 and still got into UT, School of Business (#5 undergrad in the country) simply because she was in the top 10%.
fair and still unfair in many senses. just like AA
By aso on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 - 12:55 am: Edit
yeah UT is the largest school in the US. although it has really good academics considering its enormous size. near 49,000. possibly breaking the 50,000 mark in 2003-2004.

I'm applying to UT but unfortunately i go to a hard private school so I'm not in top 10%. I have a 3.4 GPA and 1410 SAT. I'm applying for the liberal arts college and I better get in. the top 10% rule pisses me off!!!!!!!!!
By Dadster on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 07:35 pm: Edit
I'd guess you are OK for the liberal arts college, longhorns, though I'm no UT expert.
By wesin on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 10:46 pm: Edit
dont worry you WILL get in. the avg SAT score at UT is like a 1200. 1070-1310 i think is the middle 50%. dont worry. especially for liberal arts. most students who are denied for communications and business end up in liberal arts b/c its the safety school inside UT Austin.

you have to be in top 10 percent if youre from texas. whoever said that "You are in b/c you are a TX resident," DMWT, is an idiot who has no idea what they are talking about. ive seen people that have 1500's on their sat's and not get it because they aren't in the top 10 percent of their class. do some research DMWT

you dont "have" to be in the top 10% if ur a texas resident.
only 50% of UT Austin students are top 10% and the rest are 51%-99% and out-of-state which is probably not even 5%.
if ur top 10% ur automatically in, which doesnt mean that if ur NOT top10% ur not in.

I am in the 35 percentile at my school and i was wondering what my chances are getting in. I am a texas resident and would like to attend the liberal arts college and major in government. I have good e.c. including key club vice president, key club secretary (junior yr), National Hispanic Institute 4 yrs, Academic Decathlon 3 yrs, English honor society Vice President and alot of other stuff including texas aquarium volunteer....really need some help on chances I would appreciate it!

Hey tonyman....i think you might have a chance in education if thats what you want to do. I have a really good friend who's sister is going to UT and doing education. Supposedly they really need more people in the school at the moment because they are having problems attracting education major related students. Thats just what i heard so I am not too sure but good luck. Hope I see you there!
P.S. CAN SOMEONE share their opinion on my chances...i know we arent experts but a ballpark opinion would be helpful

By Tonymon12 (Tonymon12) on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 03:38 pm: Edit
longhorngl03 you might have a good chances at being accepted. Did your friend tell you that or is that a rumor about the education thing?
By longhorngl03 on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 11:41 pm: Edit
No my friend's sister told me that. She is actually in the college of education and said that it is one of the easier schools to get into because there is less competition. That is just what she told me so I cant be positive but I would think she has a good basis for her opinion. Hope you get in...I am waiting for that April 1st letter myself!

Hello,
I still haven't heard from UT-Austin yet. I got into UTSA though. Is it harder to get in as a nonresident as opposed to a texas resident. Cause I am from Texas, but I live in Virginia now. I applied to the liberal arts college. And how much longer do I have to wait until I hear from them in the mail?
By Christie007 (Christie007) on Monday, March 24, 2003 - 04:08 pm: Edit
Texasgirl,
Yes it is definately alot harder to get in the main campus of UT as a nonTexas resident. I think only 10% come from out of state. (I'm not exactly sure, but it's pretty close to that small percentage).
