Discus: What Are My Chances?: January 2004 Archive: Ok, I might have a bad grade on my mid-school year report.

Here's the deal, here's how my first semester grades will turn out (these I am sure of b/c I was told by my teachers)
Psychology 101: "A"
AP French Literature: "A"
AP Environmental Science: "A"
AP European History: "A"
AP English Literature: "A"

Here's the kicker:
AP Calculus AB: "C"

- I'm not sure if that's what I got. I don't have an A, but there's a chance I will get a B-. How will the C/B- affect my mid school year reports for Yale/Amherst.
HELP :()

Yeah, I'm just wondering what this would do for Yale and Amherst.

Well, first off, your mid-year report includes your first quarter, second quarter, and mid-term grades, so it's not the averages that really matter, its the grades for every quarter and mid-term. What's the breakdown? A C might hurt you, try and ask the teacher for a B-. Then again, this is calculus we're talking about here, a lot of colleges realize that some people get it/some people don't. Don't worry about it too much, and enjoy the second half of your senior year!!!!

Penn08, that might just be how your school works....about sending quarter grades too.

I wouldn't worry about it. Those are SOLID As! It'll more likely be looked on as a really odd flaw. It could be a teacher's fault or yeah, you might not be calculus-oriented. But Yale and Amherst...there must've been a reason why harvard accepted you. That reason is more important than 1/18 of your academic record.
