Desired Colleges:

PSU- University Park
St. John's U
Boston U

I am from New York and the only in-state school is St. John's

I am intending to major in Actuarial Science and these are some of the few schools that offer that major.

Im a junior and my GPA isnt outstanding (about a 3.4, unweighted) but i am taking some AP/advanced classes and doing fairly well in them.
AP English
AP U.S. History
AP Physics B

I will be taking even more AP's my senior year
I have gotten my score back from only one AP test from my Sophomore year:
AP World History- 4

I expect to get at least a 4 or 5 on all my AP's

Haven't taken the SAT, but 1240 on PSAT(score should go up to 1300-1400)

Select Choir
Voice IV
Show Choir:
-won national championship in 2003 at
Showstoppers competition in Orlando, Flordia
-chosen to perform at MENC conference in
Providence, RI
Performed with Area All-State Choral Group
Golf Team
Particle Physics Club
Italian Club

Community Work:

Community theatre- in a production of Les Miserables to raise money for charity (60+ hours)

I will have more extra's and community work come admission time next year

Please help, what are my chances at these schools??

Excellent at all of them. Boston U is probably the only "reach" but it's a very realistic reach for you. The others are all either matches or safeties (St. John's). Of course, this is just a guess on my part - no guarantee until you get the fat envelope in the mail. Good luck.

I'd say you have a good chance. Start applying to them very early, like in Aug/Sept your senior year.

My daughter is a senior with stats similar to yours - around 3.5 GPA (unweighted), 1270 & 1290 on SATs, decent EC's (though yours seem better)and some very meaningful summer programs/experiences. She was just admitted to PSU-University Park (applied in early November). If you apply to PSU-University, by all means make sure in senior year to apply there early - they have a priority deadline of November 30. Applications submitted after this date have less chance of success. She was also just admitted to OSU and is waiting word from other schools, including BU. Good luck!!
