I would be very thankful if you could make a comparsion between Purdue,UIUC and Penn state. I need a comparsion between their Engineering Departments. Which is more respected and prestigous, the one with the best campus, social life and qaulity of life. Could you also tell me where I could find a more academically inclined crowd.

Please also tell me which college is more discplined.

Thank You

What do you mean by discplined? People take engineering very seriously at all of those schools, if that's what you mean.

You seem very desperate pgs....have u been accepted into these 3 colleges?

UIUC is the best of the three.

I have gotten into Purdue and WPI.I am sure I will get into Penn State because I am not applying to the Honours Program and RPI. Now my uncle went to RPI he said its a great school academically but a bit too nerdy.Purdue is highly ranked then why is it so easy to get into it. I beleive they wont have a very high caliber of students. So I am just clearing things to make the best decision possible.I am right now in india so I cant even go and look at the campus so I am asking you people who are in America what is the general consensus.

In which state do you live Becks777.And thanks for helping in every thread I have posted. You have played a major role in helping me decide my chances when I was interested in Computer Sci and now when I have to decide which college to go to.

Pgs, I do not know much about Penn State. I am more than familiar with both Purdue and UIUC. Purdue is easier to get into than others but is considered one of the best in the nation for engineering. It has an impressive campus. Lafayette is a small city with mostly farms, woods and tiny towns in any direction for 40 miles. This is pure conservative midwestern US. Life on campus, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your view, is heavily geared toward going greek.

UIUC, whose campus is also very impressive, is in a bigger city area but still not mammouth, Champaign and Urbana combined have about 100,000. Leave the city area in any direction and like Purdue, you hit lots of farmland for a long time. Greek is also big there although not quite the same necessity as Purdue. Whereas Purdue is heavily populated by engineering students in comparison to its other schools, students at UIUC engineering make up less than 15% of the campus population. The engineering/science buildings are all in the same area at one end of campus, and many non-engineering students who have been there for a few years have probably never even gone near them. You will find more internationals at UIUC than Purdue.

Weather at both is similar, warm summers, cold and usually snowy winters. And if you go to either I hope you are not partial to hills or mountains, because it is flat most everywhere.

As to discipline, I am not sure what you are asking. Self-discipline is the rule. You will find at either school that engineering students always seem to have far more homework than any other students on campus, while at the same time there is not going to be somebody constantly telling you that you have to do it or even that you must go to class.

Purdue is so highly ranked because the program is absolue hell to get though, only like 50% of all those who start as freshman engineers actually graduate

I'd choose UIUC over Purdue any day.

Thanks a lot, you guys have given me quite a clear picture. But it looks that in the end I am going to head to Purdue.
