Good job, but you would be so in if you were black.

You're GPA might make College's reluctant in accepting you. However, you have great SAT scores as well as ECs. Will you make it into Yale? I can't say for sure, but I do thing you should apply. You have a shot.

I think you have a good shot at all of those schools.
By Yarhead (Yarhead) on Friday, January 17, 2003 - 01:40 pm: Edit
Any other thoughts?

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.

You have a great shot at all of those schools. The only schools that'll be reaches are Yale and Brown. Since you're a NY resident, Cornell Ag shouldn't be too much of a problem. You have excellent sat scores so that'll definately help. Your grades are decent, kind of low for those schools, but your internships/ec's will balance that out. If your essay was a little off beat and different, you'll get into practically all of those schools except maybe Yale, which is tough for anyone, even valedic's with 1600's!

$0.02, thanks for your thoughts, and interesting screen name. Any more thoughts from anyone else?

Dude you should bail at Yale and start living out of your pail, Your grades earn no accolades. What you say and do is lie and Yale will say no way guy!!! Go eat some pie and fry dough because they will say "NO NO"

that's some goor rhymin' sorry. You funk that up!
By aaaa on Saturday, January 25, 2003 - 04:27 pm: Edit
how come you are only in %15 of your class
I have the exact same GPA and I am 3rd in a class of 150.
By kermansucks on Saturday, January 25, 2003 - 10:28 pm: Edit
his school is probably more competitive. 150, not too big of a school. i'm 1/257. trust me, i could go through hs blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back and i'll still make #1 and have a perfect gpa. it's the competition factor.

Reply to aaaa: I am in top 15% because of Talmud(Judaic subject) grades in the low 80's. Otherwise, secular stuff for me is 90+. If I got 90's in Talmud, I would be in top 6, but hey, that's how the cookie crumbled.

Dont listen to 2 cents. He's a f*cking moron who shouldnt even be allowed to use a computer!! Yarhead, your grades look pretty good. Dont even go for Queens (you can do much better), as for Yale, its worth a try considering your stats, but dont get your hopes up.
Just a question: but please dont be offended...
does aa apply to all minorities (including Jews), or just Blacks and Hispanics??
By Yarhead (Yarhead) on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 12:50 am: Edit
Reply to meryl: Thanks for your input. AA applies basically to Blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans. It actually does not help Asians. Having their own box doesn't really help Asians too much because so many are highly qualified. AA does not help Jews. Jews fill out the Caucasian box and also they are often very qualified(similar to Asians).

why is $0.02 an idiot. He/She said that Yarhead has a shot and that only his GPA is slightly low (top 15% in his class), which is true for the IVY's! Meryl, wtf are u talking about? I have a similar ranking as Yarhead and I think $0.02 is right that I have a pretty low GPA too.
By meryl285 on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 04:43 pm: Edit
no josh, you completely misunderstood me!! I didnt even read what $0.02 said! I just know that he's a complete idiot because I know him personally, and he's the stupidest person I know.
And yes, Yarhead, you have a shot @ the ivies. Yarhead, you sound like an intelligent person. Maybe you should really consider a merit scholarship or something.
By Yarhead (Yarhead) on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 05:51 pm: Edit
I agree with 0.02 and Josh that my GPA is low, and that it is a hindrance in relation to college admissions. Also, I have looked at 3rd-party merit scholarships, and many deadlines have passed. Does anyone know of any that are still available?
By Jewishgal on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 06:45 pm: Edit
Colleges may look at your unique Judaic study classes as a factor that separates you from every other applicant they get. There are many Jewish individuals applying to backeast universities, yet not all are as devoted to the religion. I say you have a good chance-- it is all luck though, even though you are qualified.
I'm applying to Cali schools (UCs, Stanford, USC)-- which schools have the highest # of Jewish people and/or a strong Jewish community... Thanks
One last comment:
Yay to Jews...Yay

Yarhead, you'll get everywhere but probably not Yale.
By meryl on Friday, January 31, 2003 - 10:22 pm: Edit
I'm not sure about that, jodomono. I think he has a really good shot at all the Ivies.
By jodomono on Saturday, February 01, 2003 - 05:28 pm: Edit
Meryl, the only thing that will get you to think straight is sucking some jodomono c*ck.
By girl6 on Thursday, February 06, 2003 - 09:01 pm: Edit
so much depends on your essay!
i'd say you have a decent chance at yale and brown, a very good chance at cornell, and you're into the rest
By Yarhead (Yarhead) on Saturday, February 08, 2003 - 10:26 pm: Edit
My GC told me that I have no chance at Yale or Cornell whatsoever. He said I wouldn't get into Brown but that he can see why I might because of my religious background and how they are kind of unorthodox in terms of college admissions. He also said that there was a good chance I would miss NYU.
By Pat57575 (Pat57575) on Saturday, February 08, 2003 - 10:48 pm: Edit
Your GC sounds a bit pessimistic. IMO, with a good essay, you have about a 30-50% shot at Yale and Brown, and more like 50-70% at Cornell.

Thanks Pat. I'd hope so. Say, do any of you who posted in this thread or even just feel like talking have AIM? What are your respective screen names? Feel free to IM me at Stccps if you are so inclined.

So far, you all seem to have been correct. I have been lucky. I have made NYU, Cornell, Queens Honors, and Brandeis. More decisions are coming soon. Thank you all for your input.
