I also applied to UMICH early (not as early, like in november) and got in with these stats:
Senior from Ohio
Top 75% of my class (gpa 1.9 unweighted)
i'm around 175 out of 250
Participated in a food drive or two

People like you really make me wish I'd applied to some ivies. How could I have passed up the opportunity to spend four years surrounded by a swarm of elitist pricks?
By h on Thursday, January 09, 2003 - 12:55 am: Edit
I think they were talking about the other Umich's, not the Ann Arbor one.
I applied last year, and was accepted. (I chose not to go there though)

By Nyrules (Nyrules) on Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 02:03 am: Edit
1420 SAT, 3.65 GPA uw at a tough school in NY, accepted regular decision. Lots of extra-currics and white. UMich is pretty tough to get accepted to guys - I know kids with over 1500s who were deferred from out of state so don't be too overconfident. On the other hand, if you really show the admissions that you want to go then it'll help you at UMich more than most other schools.
I received an e-mail from them claiming that the number of applications they got this year went up by 8% and that admissions this year would probably be tougher than any other year.
Good luck to all of you.

Congrats, do u think I have a decent shot? (stats above)
By Nyrules (Nyrules) on Sunday, January 19, 2003 - 02:03 am: Edit
I think you definitely have a decent shot - at worst you'll get deferred. Your SAT won't hurt you much because UMich doesn't focus as much on scores as the level of your interest to go there. A 1360 is basically equal to a 1600 there so a 1300 is only a little under that. The fact that they haven't answered yet is kind of wierd. You should e-mail or call them and ask what's up.
Let me know what happens and good luck.

Well, I think they are running really behind. Also, I applied online and got my guidance counselor to send in my transcript a day after i sent it online, so my application was in their office, but in two different envelopes. But I applied october 5 and on November 15, they sent me this letter telling me that they needed my transcript and guidance counsleor forms but the letter was dated October 13, and that it just wasn't sent out for like a month. So my guidance counselor called in and they said that the computer just automatically mails these letters out and that they were sure that the transcript was in their office. So, my counselor said he would send another transcript just in case ( this is Noovember 16, a day after i got the letter telling me that i needed the extra trans.). I have been waiting forever and i think this is what actually happend : they didn't bother to look for my other transcript when they saw the newly sent in one, they just assumed that i didn't have the transcript before, so my app. wasn't complete, so it couldn't go under review, so finally when they got that transcript then they officially put it in the computer DECMEBER 2!!! So now the 8-12 week waiting period is based off of dec. 2 when in reality I should have heard dec. 2 because that is like 10 weeks from october 5!!!!!!! How ridiculous is that!!! I mean, my sister goes there, I made it clear that it was my first choice, it is entirly there fault, and now my chance of admission goes down and I have to wait until february!! ( sorry for sounding spoiled and impatient)
By nana on Sunday, January 19, 2003 - 10:45 pm: Edit
i think you mean it is entirely "their" fault, not "there" fault
By Joe on Sunday, January 19, 2003 - 11:26 pm: Edit
hey nana - i think you mean to include quotations around "it is entirely..." . Jerk off!
By Ron on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 12:26 am: Edit
I got in!! I think i am going there !! I still have to hear from two schools but i am sooo happY!!!!!!
By mit_hopeful on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 12:53 pm: Edit
is umich's aa policy really as bad as president bush makes it out to be???? do you think they hold different standards for different candidates??
By lol on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 02:14 pm: Edit
take a look at michigan's point system used for admissions.
although test scores arent everything, note the number of points allotted. an applicant who scores a 1050 on the SAT is awarded 10 points...while a person scoring a perfect 1600 is awarded 12 points...a measly 2 point difference between a 1050 student and a 1600 student.
then look at points awarded for race. a black applicant will be given 20 points while whites are given none.
thus, being black, statistically, gives you TEN TIMES the number of points even if you were a white applicant with a perfect 1600 SAT.

hey joe - i think you meant to use "meant" when saying: "i think you mean to include quotations around 'it is entirely...' . Jerk off!" Wanker.

I got deferred with a top 10% rank at a very competitive school (out of state) 3.6 unweighted with a lot of AP classes and a 1490 SAT.
By lol on Saturday, January 25, 2003 - 06:09 pm: Edit
a 1490 SAT means nothing to UMich under its current admissions policy. look at the above source (Newsweek). they rather take 10 black kids with a 1050 before they take 1 white kid with a 1490.
By Ron on Monday, January 27, 2003 - 12:50 am: Edit
it is tough this year. GPA is key, and atate/regional committment really helps. I don't even know what they will do now that Bush has made them change their policy.
By Proline6 (Proline6) on Saturday, February 15, 2003 - 11:42 am: Edit
