We're supposed to read Heart of Darkness over winter break, and I'm just starting it now. I know it's a pretty short book, so I'm not worried about not finishing it, I just want some help analyzing it because I don't have that much time to think about it (plus I suck at analyzing literature.) I'm just starting it, so could someone please let me know what the big message is, what some of the symbolism is, and just anything else that is beyond the basics of the story? Thanks a lot.

Ok, this was my last read for AP before break...basically, the overriding idea is that civilization is in fact just a means of covering up mans true heart of darkness, and that true self discovery can only take place in "uncivilized" places, which is why Kurtz actually should get credit for not trying to lie and cover up european imperialism but actually just carrying it out and not hiding behind some false justification...HTH

i'm confused isnt this a site forum for WHAT ARE YOUR CHANCES. How the hell does reading this book have any reason for being in this forum. Maybe next time you should realize where your writing this stuff cause u r obviously in the wrong place.
