is it harder for an asian or a white person to get into a top school?

No, it's the same difficulty for both. A task force did a study on white vs. asian admissions a few years ago. They had the same concerns as you.

The factor that makes it harder for Asians is not RACE, but rather LEGACY.

Asians of course. 1400 SATs is considered normal for us. Legacy doesn't apply to me. My parents are immigrants.

It's either the same for Asians and Whites, or harder for Asians based on their higher test scores and performance as a group.

As far as I know, all Asians, including Indians and Pakistanis, are lumped together in the Asian category.

Asians, whites, Russians, Eastern Europeans, OFF-MAIN ISLAND Puerto Ricans, etc.

Basically racial groups that are not politically popular with the democrats.

Anon,

A Chinese and a Japanese are just as different as a German and Italian. Different cultures, different food, different languages. If you were to talk to a Japanese mistaking him for Chinese, he would immediately reveal his true ethnicity the same way if you were to confuse a German with an Italian.

Let's clear some myths that have been running around here okay. I hate to be repetitive of what's already been said but okay being Asian especially Chinese does not make it harder for you to get into college over whites. Obviously Chinese and other Asian kids are a not a minority and will be treated as a majority like whites. Ethnicity is only a factor if you are a minority. Granted that many Asians like Chinese and Koreans are smart, they are good enough to be in their own selective applicant pools. If you're a Chinese kid, they will not put you on an applicant pool with other Chinese the same goes if you are Korean or any other Asian. They will put you up against the majority whites.

For schools such as Berkeley, Asians are admitted by GPA, as for Whites, by SAT verbal score. but still percentage of asians is higher. cute asian boys too!
