Hey Guys, I know this is off the topic, but hey, it's Christmas day! we need to talk about something that's not about college.
lol...so,
just curious, what do you think about Jin, the first Chinese & also the first Asian rapper?

I'm not into rap, but I've heard of Jin the MC. Seeing as how the genre is very popular, I'm glad that this guy's broken out and can bring some more exposure to Asian-Americans.

Just wondering.....do people speak English back in China, Japan and Korea??
By Peacemakeriv (Peacemakeriv) on Thursday, December 25, 2003 - 03:29 pm: Edit
lol, it was the best song ever
anyhow, chinese rap is wrong, I went back to chinese during the summer and i couldnt understand a word they are singing, it's 10 times faster than English rap....
Besides, any syllable in Chinese rhymes, there is no point in rapping it cuz one can rap anything with anything...
o wells, just my opinion

I think Jin CAN rap (in English, that is, I haven't heard any of his raps in Chinese except the few lines of Cantonese in "Learn Chinese",). And he is definitely breaking the Asian sterotype.
Do you guys watch the MTV New Year Eve's show? I think Jin's "Learn Chinese" is gonna be in it.
yeah~~I think the "Got Rice" song is funny too,
I even got addicted to it for a while~~lol~~I know~~~but it got me laugh every time I hear it.

His rap is POOP. I heard it and really it has no substance. His rapping ability is okay but after a while all of his songs will sound the same. His songs also have no beat nor ryhme. He raps about gangsta's but what ghetto is he from?
By Belial (Belial) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 02:07 am: Edit
But the amount of swears in those Chinese rap - especially that MC - just shocks me. He taught me quite a few new swears.
Now, Eminem is controversial, but all the words are well within my normal vocab...
By Flameball63 (Flameball63) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 02:51 am: Edit
Dude, Jin's cool...I mean, come on, compared to a lot of other mc's, Jin's cool. I can't believe you guys haven't heard of Jeffery Kong...he is really popular in TW and mainland!! He is awesome! Jay Chou...at first he was cool, I mean, then, after I bought his newest CD, he just got really old really fast...I wish he would learn to actually speak clearly before rapping...ergh, I have to read the lyrics along with the songs to follow some of them...but, his "Yi Fu Zhi Ming" ting cool de...I loved the video. But, from bottom to the top, chinese music rules...haha...just a shout out to all my fellow azns!!
By Sally (Sally) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 12:53 pm: Edit
lol, I like "Yi Fu Zhi Ming" too, but I like "Qing Tian" & "Dong Feng Po" better. BTW, who's Jeffery Kong? I probably know him if I see his Chinese name.
By Flameball63 (Flameball63) on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 - 07:31 pm: Edit
Kong Ling Qi...he is like the Nth generation descendent of Conzi(confuscious)...lol...he is awesome..check out his tracks. And, yeah, I like all of those songs too, but, bottom line, Jay's older Cds were a lot better...he is now all too much commericialized.

hey has anyone seen the MTV New Year Eve show (or whatever)? Was Jin in it?
I didnt have time to watch it, ...was doing my applications
Stupid Dec 31 & Jan 1 deadlines. And stupid parties, you know, those families gatherings (that you go w/ your parents) where your parents and others compare your grades & scores w/ the other kids'.
When everyone was counting down the seconds to the New Year, I was just back from the "party" and on my computer (staring at the computer's clock and counting)to submit my yale application and hoping it will go in before 0:00.
Yeah, it sucked.

Naw, didn't see it, I just hung back with my friends and watched the HK-TW-China New Year concerts...and partied...our parents played MahJong...haha.

I like some of her songs. =)
and Flameball, yeah, my parents & the other parents played MahJong too...lol I can play MahJong too! lol
BTW, the Food was GOOD....=)
I didn't watch the HK-TW-China New Year thing cuz the applications. But the parents were watching it.

Hey you guys, I just noticed, isnt it cool that Jin's "Learn Chinese" is almost at the same time as the AP Chinese Test & Course (on Collegeboard) announced?
lol.."y'all gon learn Chinese"...

HAHA, maybe he is actually like the typical asian in disguise...that would be weird. But, yeah, Faye Wong, I don't like her that much...her newest CD is kinda weird. But, her boyfriend's cool...Xie Ting Feng...but, his last CD sucked. I like Zhou Chuan Xiong(xiao gang)...he is my favorite, and all the older singers, like Andy Lau, Jackie ZHang, and Leo Li. HAHA...go chinese music!

just curious, what do you think about Jin, the first Chinese & also the first Asian rapper? --you mean Chinese-American & Asian-American right?
Just wondering.....do people speak English back in China, Japan and Korea?? -- Some schools teach English. Also, China, Japan, and Korea are not the only countries in Asia. They are only the East Asian countries. Southeast, South, and middle east countries tend to get cut out.
jin sucks. his hype is overrated because he's just chinese. none of his raps make any sense. they're so stupid. --agreed. Though, I'm glad other minorities are breaking out into the music scene.

I found "Got Rice" to be the most offensive song I have ever heard. I can't see how humor can be found in that.
By Sally (Sally) on Sunday, January 04, 2004 - 12:24 pm: Edit
"I found 'Got Rice' to be the most offensive song I have ever heard. I can't see how humor can be found in that."
comeon, it sings about rice n chopstix n soup n food n tea....
uh...well, yeah, the language was kinda bad but that's why is funny bcuz none of the asians i know talk like that n none of them have that attitude, so it's funny to me ...n there is this asian voice.. n its always funny when someone try to act tough.
also i find the voice is very similiar to one of my friends, so when i hear the song, I always picture him singing it, so that's why the song is funny to me.
Hope ur not mad.

I had a question...is the Chinese food we eat in restaraunts really Chinese? Because I heard it was totally different from what Chinese ppl actually eat.
By Flameball63 (Flameball63) on Monday, January 05, 2004 - 05:44 pm: Edit
No. Simply...no. Real Chinese food you have to go back to China to have-there are different styles. The Chinese food in America always seem to be missing something. But, there are restaurants that are close to the real thing, but, the really good stuff, restaurants in America never have, and they always seem to be lacking the flavor. But, as I said, there are really good restaurants in China town...lol.
By Sally (Sally) on Tuesday, January 06, 2004 - 04:44 pm: Edit
I totally agree with Flameball, The Chinese food here in America is very different from the Chinese food in China. Not only flavor, but also the types of dishes, the materials, the chief...are all different (not TOO much). =) Here the Chinese food are made more for the Americans.
but it is good too.

hmm, ditto to most of the chinese pop stars that have already been mentioned.
Mshell: it may be cuz Sun Yan Zi is from Singapore. . .

Hua XIang was a couple of years ago, where Zhou Chuan Xiong(love him...one of the older singers) wrote this song for a break out artist named Xu Shao Xiang...I am not surprised that a lot of people here don't know them, because, they are really popular in TW...Lu Yi<<mainland singer...great song: Gao Bai...yeah, I listen to alot of music, I think I have almost all the CDs(chinese) that came out,by the people that I like, in the past two years...yeah, I am a nut, I think in my computer alone I have past 1000 songs and at least 50 CDs that came out fresh in the last two years...chinese music paysites...they are geniuses...

It shouldn't ask for your cell number...if it does, don't give it. Download it from Sogua, they have it there on their site. Like, its one of their ads. Try that, there's a few corrupt versions out there. Hope this helps.
