I applied to Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Brown (PLME), Stanford, UCLA, UCB, UCSD, NYU (BA/MD), USC (BA/MD), G. Washington (Engineering/MD), IIT (BA/MD), Duke, UPenn..I think that's it.
SAT I: 1550, (790 V, 760 M) only took it once if that matters..
SAT II: 790 Math 2C, 770 Writing, 780 Physics, 800 Chinese, 700 Spanish
GPA: 4.0 (weighted, obviously my weakest), Top 10% at a competitive high school that does not rank
E.C.'s: President of FBLA, officers in several other clubs (pubicity, VP, etc.), leader of a local youth group, jv swim team (quit after sophomore year though), outside swimming team (all 4 years), black belt taekwondo, internship at a neurology research institute (sounds more impressive than it actually is), work as an assistant salesperson at a jewelry store, piano only CM level 5 though I play mostly for fun, website design committee
Awards/Honors: AAPT/KSTF Physics Bowl 2nd place, division I (all western states); National merit semifinalist (80M, 80 V, 74 W)= 234 selection index; AP scholar with honor (5 US History,5 Calculus, 3 physics <== will retake this year - I messed up and that's all I can say..., 3 comp sci. AB); University Program for High School Scholars at UCI; FBLA 9th Place business law, southern section conference; Most improved swimmer...these are the most significant ones...
In addition, I take/have taken quite a few college classes...
I live in CA, and just want to hear your thoughts on my chances. I am open to criticism, but please refrain from making crude remarks for no reason.
Also, if I did not apply to a med program, I selected biomedical engineering as my major.
P.S. I really want to go to either PLME or USC BA/MD..

what's your unweighted GPA?
|By Seriously on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 09:00 pm: Edit|
Not to be racist, but being Chinese really sucks when it comes to college APPS.

What the hell is wrong with you Chinese kids on these board as well as in real life always showing off your accomplishments? Who cares? Wow you guys are extremely huge nerds who've probably dedicated a good portion of your life to all those achievements. You've probably never been to a high school party or gotten laid. Seriously, I'm all for AA because it helps with the diversity factor. The schools in America especially the UC's and the Ivy Leagues do not need any more of you Chinese kids. You guys are simply a dime a dozen achievers. Your resumes are so impressive yet show no uniqueness which is why the colleges reject you.

Terence: I doubt they're showing off. They've just been raised on high standards, so they're very insecure about their accomplishments. Their vision of what's good enough is a bit distorted.
stressed: Don't stress, you're a very strong candidate for all the schools you applied to, but you're not guaranteed admission into any of the more prestigious ones because... well, decisions do seem kind of random with them. ^^; But really, don't worry.
Heh, my school doesn't rank either. :P

Shut your mouth you low-life scum-bag. Your just jealous of Chinese students academic achievements so now you're trying to rip on them due to jealousy and insecurity. And who the hell cares about attending a high school party or getting laid? ARe you that concerned with your image? IS going to high school parties or getting laid all the time (unless you're a porn star) going to make you a ton of money? And you support AA because your racist (Against the Chinese in particular).

Liz, my unweighted GPA is around 3.6
Also my UC gpa is 4.2 , UCI GPA 4.0, community college GPA 4.0. Does that helps?

Terence, listen to this:
I am Chinese (real Chinese, not American borned); I have no E.C., a SAT score of 1420 (620 V + 800 M), and a class rank of barely top 15%. I don't give a damn to school and skip classes almost every other day.
YET I AM ACCEPTED TO MIT WITH E/A.
So you, Terence, you are wrong!!!

Since when are "American borned" Chinese not "real" Chinese?
|By mitrocks on Sunday, January 05, 2003 - 01:23 pm: Edit|
They are not -- that's why they are called American Borned Chinese, ABC. They are also called Chinese American or American Chinese. Plus, most of them probably don't want to be identified with the nation China.

I'm Chinese and not "American Borned" (Hehe). :D
I have a life. :D
I play Vars Basketball, so I'm 'Popular'. :D
I have good grades and ECs. :D
I'm Christian, so I won't get laid until I marry. :D

I'm Chinese and I'm one of the top students in my class of 800 kids. I'm Ivy League bound, a popular basketball/tennis player as well as Homecoming King. Wow Terence, there goes your little theory. BTW mitrocks, most Chinese are proud to be Chinese as well as China (Just not the commie jerks that rule China).
