I'm not exactly big on extracurriculars, but my transcript is just about as difficult as it can be, and i have straight A's in all my classes for the last 3 years. My school is generally very good at college acceptance (this year we have 4 into Penn, 1 to Princeton, 1 to Brown, a couple to other top schools)

GWU is a safety.
80% chance of acceptance at emory and case western... a little less at tufts.
60% at Cornell and JHU
50% PSU honors, UPenn, and Swarthmore.
Some might come in this thread and say that this post is too optimistic, but with 1/400 at a good public school and a perfect GPA (plus really good test scores), i dont see you being rejected at more than 3 of these schools... You might want to add a "real safety" if you dont want to end up at GWU or are a little paranoid about being rejected.

PSU Honors- I had always thought that was relatively easy to gain acceptance. I'm in-state, so maybe it's a little different (i know kids with 3.6 GPAs and 1370's who were accepted). Anyway, the schools I think i really want to go to are JHU, Cornell, or Penn. They offer the majors I want- JHU (Public Health), Cornell (Human Biology), and Penn (Health and Society).

Any other opinions. Specifically on Penn, Cornell, and JHU.

Penn Honors is a safety for you. You only need around a 1350 and 3.7 to get admitted.

the only school up there that will give u a challenge is UPENN. other than that, ur in everywhere else. i know kids which much lower stats that have been accepted to cornell and jhu. but i also know of kids with higher stats that were rejected from PENN (ED).

How difficult will UPenn be. I'm worried that, because I live in area (about 30 minutes away), they would have expected me to apply ED, but I just wasn't ready at that point. We already have 4 students from school accepted. What would you say my chances are RD, in percentage. I know that you can't really evaluate me all that well because of course I really no one has a crystal ball, but assume that I have amazing teacher recs. and a few very good essays.
(Question: for applying to Penn, i was thinking about including an additional essay - my common app one - because I think it conveys my personality better than any of the Penn essays. Also, I was thinking about sending in my piano cassette tape. But, then, I think to myself that a school the size and caliber of Penn is only looking for incredibly talented pianist. I'm quite good, with 11 years experience, but I'm no Chopin)

I think u have an excellent chance at all those schools. Don't hesitate to send in supplementary info. Just make sure they will be helpful to the adcoms. don't just send in stuff just to send in stuff.
Accept/Reject
70/30 Penn
80/20 Cornell
90/10 JHU
can't say with Swarthmore
good luck

UPenn sounds like a fair bet for you, probably 50/50. Remember that stats dont get u into a school like Penn; make sure your essays and recs are top-notch.

I can't possibly imagine you being rejected from Swarthmore...Should be pretty easy to get in with those stats

I'm applying to the Health and Societies major at Penn. I guess I would call that a lesser known major, do you think that would help at all? It's really the type of major that I'm looking for at every school- practical, but also with the options to take courses in the liberal arts.

anyone else? UPenn, Cornell, Swarthmore, JHU- the big 4.

I thought you were thinking of engineering or business, according to your latest thread re Haverford ED.
| By Gpenguin (Gpenguin) on Thursday, January 29, 2004 - 09:01 pm: Edit |
i just got rejected by swarthmore with 800s in physics and math IIC, a 1510 and a couple of 5s. what the hell is wrong with them? they couldnt even defer me? It's downright insulting. If you get rejected with 2 800s, youre not the only one. If you dont take it well, youre also not the only one. I just ate one of those ricola cough drops with the wrapper still on. It took me a few minutes to realize I was chewing on paper. Brace yourself.
