What are my chances at MIT

By MIT Mom on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 11:25 pm: Edit

Rowing on the crew team is really big at MIT. (The campus is right on the Charles River.) Your rowing experience should be a plus.

I'd say you're certainly worth a very serious look by MIT admissions. Other than that, given that only about 11% of MIT applicants are admitted (and 85% of applicants are considered to be qualified,) I'd have to say that aspects of the MIT admissions process appear to be "random" to the outside observer. I don't think that I, or anyone else, can give you an accurate assessment of your chances other than to say that you appear to be qualified, and good luck!

By dont u need SAT I? on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 11:34 pm: Edit

where's ur SAT I score?

By MIT Mom on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 11:37 pm: Edit

I believe that MIT applicants for whom English is not their first language can substitute the TOEFL for the SAT I. (Kenny, please correct me if I'm wrong.)

Hey kenny,

You are *in*! Your chance at MIT is 100%.

I am accepted to MIT (class of 2007) with early action, so I know what I am talking about...

(sorry for posting this again...)

dsz

r u serious ?

can you give me some more information

why I'm the right person for MIT !

By MIT Mom on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 11:10 am: Edit

Kenny,
NO APPLICANT is 100% "in" at MIT, and no student on this list is qualified to tell you so, unless they are a member of the MIT Admissions Committee (which I doubt holds true for dsz.)

As I said, you look like a very strong candidate. However, part of getting in depends on being a strong candidate -- both academically and personally -- and the other part depends on what appears to be random "luck."

Kenny,

Winning two medals for IOI, that's a HUGE accomplishment. That, with a good essay showing you are serious about MIT, will get you into MIT.

My name is Songzi Du, and I am from San Francisco... I tried for US IOI team but the best I got is making to the national (USACO) final camp...

what the heck are informatics?

By MIT crew on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 02:24 am: Edit

Kenny, I was recruited for Crew at MIT. What they do is the coach writes a letter of recommendation to the admissions office, and they take a closer look at your application, and you have a much better chance. Contact their coach and he'll ask you your grades, SAT's, extracurriculars, and erg score. Based on these, he will make his decision whather or not to give you a recommendation. So if you really want MIT, try to get recruited, and you'll have a much better chance.
