You should get into UW--Madison; actually you should get into most on your list. Yale as you said is an iffy, but I think you've got a shot there too. I guess the only problem is the "general interest" part. I read a lot for fun but I heard that it really doesn't count to list "general interest" things like these unless you've done something with them. But you have won awards/certification for all that stuff so you should be fine.

Thanks Iluvlucy, I appreciate your comments!

Dear HOneymoon,

You have surpassed the CC bump limit. Cease and desist.

I think you have a fair shot at most of those schools. Yale is a pretty big reach and UCLA, when it comes to out-of-state admissions, it's practically as difficult as Harvard, if not more so, not to discourage your from applying. NYU is somehwere inbetween the two groups. Your extracurriculars look great, but they'd look a lot better if you had some awards to go with them. If I were you, I'd focus on a few of your EC's and really create a niche for yourself in the admissions pool. You have such a wide range of activities that your interests and talents might just be taken for granted by the reader.
Also, it's nice that you've travelled the world, but many colleges will see that as only something you were able to afford to do so I wouldn't focus my essay on how travelling prepared your for college. However, if you raised the money yourself, that might make for an interesting essay. And one more note, if you haven't already applied to UCLA, the deadline was November 30. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Doesn't NYU require THREE SAT II's? I only saw that you had writing and literature. I'm not sure about this one...so sorry if I'm wrong. My sister currently attends NYU (drama major, one of the best schools for that). I don't know her EXACT stats, but they're along these lines:
1310 SAT
SAT II's were about 660 I think
GPA: 3.7 UW, 4.1 weighted
She was in the top 15 percent of a competitive public high school
She had so many EC's, it was insane. Tons of stuff w/ theater, wrote a play that was shown in New York after she won a national playwriting contest.

Remember, though, she had to have an audition. I think that Tisch is a little more selective than the other schools b/c of that.

Good luck! I think you have a very good chance, and I hope you get in. (say hi to my sis for me when you're there!)

CAS doesn't require THREE SAT II's. I believe only STERN does.

quality not quantity

I do have three SAT II's- I had to take three for UCLA.

I had a disaster with the maths- I'm not bad at maths at all really- in fact my ACT maths score beat my reading score. But I hadn't done an exam in a year and I flipped. Got like 520 or something ridiculous like that. It isn't at all a fair representation of my math skills, so for most places I've left it out, apart from UCLA, (which will most likely affect my chances there a hell of a lot)!

I checked the undergrad website for international students, and it seems I only need the ACT, but I've got the back-up SAT II's if they want them.

My daughter just got accpeted to NYU Tisch School of the Arts and she didn't take the SAT II or the SAT. She sent her ACT (score 31) and her transcripts. Good luck to everyone. Remember, they want a diverse class so everyone isn't going to have perfect test scores.
