Cornell is the easiest

By dogboy on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 09:47 pm: Edit

Cornell is really easy to get into. I have some friends that got into cornell ED, who otherwise wouldnt have gotten into any other ivy schools. They accept a lot of applicants and some of there schools (i.e. human ecology)are way easy to get into. I compare Cornell`s difficulty of getting in to that of U of R, RPI and NYU

By cornellgrad on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 01:39 pm: Edit

remember, only if you're from NY state does getting into the state schools become easy...otherwise, it is very difficult.

I know a kid who is going to Princeton for baseball. He took one AP Class and got a personal call from the Dean of Admissions. His GPA was to my knowledge not above 4.0. That goes to show how easy it is for athletes to get into an Ivy League with sports!!! So to all of you sweating out your many AP Classes and hoping for admission into an IVY....too bad you didnt play baseball....

By anonymous on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 04:35 pm: Edit

Who cares? The ivy leagues suck at sports. He could've got into a Division 1 school like Standford.

By justathought on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 05:17 pm: Edit

I agree with the comment about Cornell being the easiest, but I think Yale might be harder to get into than Harvard or Princeton. Either way, I think its a lot better. Thoughts?

By John on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 06:06 pm: Edit

I think Cornell is the easiest only because of the other schools they have associated. If it was just Engineering and School of Arts and Sciences, I don't think Cornell would be as hard if not harder than some of the other ivies.

Anonymous.....But it doesnt matter.....he took the spot of someone who was smarter and more well qualified!

"I compare Cornell`s difficulty of getting in to that of U of R, RPI and NYU." --dogboy

According to the 2002 Edition of "The Princeton Review, The Best 331 Colleges," here are the Admissions Ratings of the 4 schools that dogboy compared. The Admissions Ratings gives the relative difficulty of admissions. It is determined by several factors, including class rank, test scores, and percentage of applicants accepted. The highest possible score, corresponding to the most difficult places to get admitted, is 99.

ADMISSIONS RATINGS
Cornell -- 97
University of Rochester -- 88
RPI -- 82
NYU -- 89

BTW, Dartmouth's Admissions Rating is 98, a notch above Cornell.

No, dogboy, I don't think that Cornell's level of difficulty to gain admissions is the same as the other schools you mentioned.

By dogboy on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 09:06 pm: Edit

The Princeton Review, The Best 331 Colleges" has a really stupid rating system for hardness of acceptance. In the book, it rates Carnegie Mellon as a "90" difficulty of admissions, that`s B.S.
Therefore, catgirl you`re arguement is B.S.

By anonymous on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 09:08 pm: Edit

It depends. If your applying to Tisch at NYU then it'll then you'll probably get in easily. But it's much harder to get into Stern overall. Getting into Rochester is hard if your out of state. The admissions ratings aren't that acurate.

By catgirl on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 09:28 pm: Edit

Dogboy,

"...you're arguement is B.S."

Are you saying I an arguement? (You're is not a possesive, but a contraction for "you are.")

Why do you say that the Princeton Review has a "really stupid" rating system? I'm not arguing here, I'm really curious on what you base that statement. When you say that Carnegie Mellon's rating of 90, why do you say that is "B.S."? Do you think that rating is too low or too high for CMU overall? My guess is that it's to low for the Computer Science School and about right for the Science School and other schools. It also reflects the overall stats (class rank and test scores) of the admitted students, so the Drama students may have a very competative admissions process, but their stats may be low.

Again, I'm not arguing, I really want to know why you say those ratings are "really stupid."

P.S. I still say that Cornell (especially A&S and Engineering) is more difficult to get into than U of R, RPI, NYU, and (with the possible exception of the Computer Science School), CMU.

By catgirl on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 09:47 pm: Edit

P.S. To Dogboy,
I apologize for my swipe at your grammar. I just re-read my post, and I used "to" instead of "too." (...it's to low for the Computer Science School.)

I guess I got what I deserved on that one!

But I still want to know why you think those ratings are "really stupid." Personally, I think that, considering those ratings factor in stats and admissions rate, they're pretty much on the number for the school overall. The only arguement I would make about them is that, especially as in the case of Cornell and CMU, the different Schools within those Universities should have their own Admissions ratings.

By dogboy on Wednesday, January 01, 2003 - 10:19 pm: Edit

I`m saying that CMU should have a higher acceptance rating than 90.

Overall, Cornell is not a "most selective school".

By Cru (Cru) on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 08:43 am: Edit

What are you guys talking about. Cornell just accepts a lot of students because of the large student body! That's why they have a higher acceptance rate. And, Cornell is an excellent school.

By Catgirl on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 08:50 am: Edit

Yey, Cru! Thanks for confirming the fact that, although Cornell's selectivity may not be up there in the statosphere with the likes of Harvard, Stanford, and MIT, it's certainly just a notch below, it's an EXCELLENT school, and it's far more selective (and a better school) than CMU, RPI, and U of R.

By dogboy on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 01:10 pm: Edit

I`m not saying that cornell is on the same par with U of R and RPI academically, but cornell isn`t that hard to get into.

By cornell is supreme on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 06:56 pm: Edit

True. Cornell may be the least difficult ivy to get into, but the rigor and quality of the education is widely respected. You could go to Harvard and get a B.S. education and graduate with a 4.0 GPA and get all the attention in the world because of the acceptance rate there. Or you could go to Cornell which isn't quite as prestigious, get a 3.0 GPA (the curve is set to a 2.3) but get ten times the quality of a Harvard education, and come out a very educated person.

By dogboy on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 09:19 pm: Edit

YO catgirl, where do you go to school, because you sound like you either got rejected from cornell or attend there. Either way you sound really bitter.

By physics on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 10:34 pm: Edit

Cornell's physics is looked at as the deciding factor for entrance into many post grad or professional schools. I know this as a FACT.It's just about the toughest course around.

just have to no, cornell lets in peeps with a 3.0? Wow! What percent do they takefor u to be ranked in H.S.> Like what chance might a well-ronded student with a 3.0 and a rank being in the top 15% have in getting in?

By Alexander (Alexander) on Tuesday, May 06, 2003 - 04:43 pm: Edit

cornellissupreme.. could u answer that one
