Why is acceptance rate of Texas A&M(of course not ivy league, but a very reputed university) so high...
| By Amg2k03 (Amg2k03) on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 12:08 pm: Edit |
its not high for a large public university. look at others...such as Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State(somewhat high%), and Rutgers.

yeah i agree its not that high.....it is a good university with the best undergrad architecture program in the country. gig em aggies! other than that it also has a 85% acceptance rate in med school for its pre-med students. the highest in texas! i applied there for molecular and celluar bio and hope to get in.........thats off topic.....one reason you might think the acceptance rate is high is b/c A&M has the texas top 10% rule. if you graduate in the top10% of your hs class, a public tx university will have to accept you regardless of SAT, ACT scores or poor essays. unfair sometimes as in my school the average SAT score for the top 10%-ers is a meager 950. im not top 10% but i got a 1300

why realist?

Because it is. It is a large public school that is not very selective and doesn't have the academic reputation of public schools like Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, etc. It's just another state college.

no it is not. another state college is UC riverside, csu campuses, utsa, ut dallas, ut pan am, and others. dont even say that a&m is "another" state college. selectivity doesnt mean that a school is good. what if harvard only recieved 3000 applicants and had to accept them all. would harvard then be considered a bad school. UCLA, oh c'mon. the bruins? that school is sooo over rated.

For the fall of 2003, Texas A&M received over 19,500 applications for less than 6500 freshmen admits. Of the 6500 admiited, over 50% will be in the top 10% of their school class rank. That leaves over 16,000 students vying for less than 3200 places. Competition to get into Texas A&M is fierce. It is NOT just a state college.

Wow, whoever said Texas A&M is another state college has obviously had no affiliation whatsoever with the University. TAMU is an awesome school and as the stats show, if you're a good student you can definitely maximize your potential there. Yes, it has its share of less determined people just like any college does, but it also has a lot of brilliant people and the facilities to help them get where they want to go in life. Aggies are the biggest family you could possibly have and the spirit at A&M is what makes it truly phenomenal.
Giggem (nice name, btw) is completely right about the selectivity at A&M, too. Selectivity tells you how popular the school is and how much room the school has, not the quality of applicants and not anything concrete about the school's programs.
