I've done this once or twice in the past but here goes.
SAT: 1470 (780v/690m)
SAT II: 730 Writing 720 US History 690 Math IC
GPA: 3.4 UW 3.6W Strong upward trend
Rank: Top 30% of 186 (Hurt by a poor Freshman year)
EC's: Moderate w/ Leadership Positions
Volunteer: I've volunteered about 10 hours per week for the past 4 years.
Rec's: Average
Essay: I'd like to hope above average, it's a unique topic(I spend my $10 going to places from my childhood that made me who I am)
Applied Major: Politicial Science(lots of people apply to JHU for BME and Biology but I hear that applying to other majors doesn't help because it's one of the last things they look at?)

I don't know much about JHU. Your SAT I's are obviously fine. However your GPA would concern me. And average recs, moderate EC's...I dunno. At some point the colleges take students who don't stand out, so it's not hopeless, but I'd feel better about your chances if you did stand out in some way.

Ya, I really don't have much of a hook. I'm your average cookie cutter applicant except with a low GPA and rank. Hopefully they see something they like about me though.

Maybe you have a rare blood type?

Damn, no I don't, just your average Type O here.

Negative, by any chance?
(Work with me here...I'm looking for *something*!)
At this point I'd just hope your SAT's would do it for you. From the rejections/acceptances posted on this board last April, that's an unreliable formula.

Thedad- You're in demand nowadays, eh?

Unreliable from what you remember for JHU ED or just for schools in general? I've been trying to dig up posts from kids accepted to JHU in the past but it's been hard.

Virgo, I'm afraid so.
Xtech, unreliable in general but I can't think of any reason that JHU wouldn't follow the same pattern as comparable upper-tier schools. ED usually gives a bump, of course.
I wish CC's search feature was more sophisticated so that you could use multiple criteria, e.g., subject and date range.

Well, somehow the system worked in my favor. I got in. ^_^
