Hi, I am currently a freshman at Syracuse University... I am looking to transfer to NYU for fall'04 into CAS.. By years' end i will have taken 30 creds here (exactly) and have a GPA of 4.0. I take senior/graduate level french and i am also involved in 2 clubs here including Honors Students Association. Here's the problem - My high school data:
GPA: 3.3 unweighted/3.75 weighted
SAT1: 1250 (700v/550m)
SAT2's: French w/listening - 740, Writing - 700
AP's: French (4), Language and comp (4), lit (3), Euro (3)
EC stuff:
I was a writer for the school paper, participated in debate model Congress/MUN for 4 years and earned numerous honors including oustanding delegate awards at Harvard MC and NYHSMUN.
Other info: I am fluent in french and lived in Paris for 3 years. I am African American (Moroccan - Finally they have an african american and caucasian option! Before the ambiguity and lack of precise language in the classifications was extremely troubling).
If anyone has comments please feel free. I will gladly answer any questions anyone may have concerning SU as well..
Thanks,
Paul Walker.

Your ECs in high school do not matter much, and they will most likely not even have a place on the app. to list them. They will be most interested in what you have done EC wise in college. Your GPA is obviously excellent, which is the MOST important thing when transferring.
The funny thing is, I am in the same boat as you, only applying to Cornell. My high school record was similar to yours, and so are my SATs. So you can bet I am extremely worried. I explained my situation in HS, but I'm not sure if it will make up for it. If you have any specific reasons for not excelling in HS, you should probably mention them in the application. Best of luck to you! I think you have a great chance, as SATs do not matter very much for transfer applicants, and a 4.0 in college should overpower a less-than-stellar HS career.

Thanks for the comment, slc.. Where are you currently enrolled? I have several friends in cornell right now and i can tell the campus is absolutely stunning, as well as the campus life from my brief weekend visits there. The students are friendly, open, and - i mean this in a non-conceded way - you know they're smart. Party life was really a lot of fun, and this is coming from someone who doesnt like partying too much, the parties were laid back as opposed to the madness here at SU. One thing you must know is that the school is A LOT of work, like I mean true work, you cannot slack off there.. its quite a challenge, but thats the fun of it all, is it not?

Haha yeah. I am at Sarah Lawrence. I have a ton of friends at Cornell, and everytime I visit them, I have a wonderful time (the social life at SL is terrible). But the main reason I am going there is for the work--not necessarily the amount of work, but that the work is challenging in itself. And they have excellent resources (mannn, those libraries!) to get you through it. And such a large and diverse body of students--and I have FRIENDS there, so I won't even be completely "starting over" in the social area. Oh god, help me. I am applying under Anthropology though, not Engineering, so at least I will get some sleep once in awhile. Oh well.
