ok this is a lil weird...i really want to go to NYU but im afraid my junior yr grades will mess it up for me...i mean not to use it to try and get in..but my junior yr really sucked cuz my mom was arrested for child abuse and a friend of mine died from alcohol poisoning...so as of now my stats are

GPA. 3.4 unweighted...4.3 weighted
SAT I: 1300
SAT II: Writing 730...still to take the other 2 in Jan
EC: Beta Club rep, Interact Club, SPanish Honor Society Rep, Ballet, Tennis and classical dance
Comm Service: Teen Court attorney for Juvenile Justice System, coaliton for the homeless, tutoring

yea thats prettty much it...if my chances suck its ok...but i really hope i get in! oh and im asian...will that help ANY?

You can explain any extenuating circumstances on your application. I would definitely put some of that stuff down, as schools should know if significant personal events affected your grades. I'm not sure if you should write about it as your main essay; it will require a lot of tact to do that properly.

Also, talk to your guidance counselor and let him/her know what's going on in your life. They can do a lot more in terms of mediating with schools and making sure the adcoms know what happened to your grades.

SLIM To no chance.. sorry

By Exxonboy32 (Exxonboy32) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 07:20 pm: Edit

you will NEVER get anywhere with those scores...let's be honest here. in a world where 4/10 SAT takers score 1300 or above, you need some monstrous extracurriculars or to be a minority. and youre asian so good luck getting some affirmative action points. i got 1550 on the sat i and 800s on 5 of the sat 2s but i still only got into tulane. good luck enwhyyou.

you have a chance, its not high but its not terrible. I mean were talking NYU not Harvard, its not nearly as difficult to get in. Also, there is more to life than SAT scores, thats why Exxonboy32 only got into Tulane, he has yet to realize that. Just make sure you put together some rock solid essays and tie everything up in a resume and you may have a decent shot. Lastly, make sure to explain all your extenuating circumstances. Admission officers are humans not machines, they can understand these kinds of things. I would definitly try and apply, you never know when luck may swing your way.

Exxonboy32, you are tripping. 40% of students DO NOT get a 1300 or above. Only like four people at my school have scored above 1300. We may be disappointed with not getting like a 1520 but don't even make a cocky-ass statement like that because the majority of students don't do as well as this board does. Two people in my AP English class have a 1000 or below. And these are AP kids even.

Stop making people ansy.

1300 is 90th percentile <--1/10, not 4/10, guy
1200 is 80th percentile
1130 is 70th percentile
1070 is 60th percentile
1020 is 50th percentile
970 is 40th percentile
910 is 30th percentile
850 is 20th percentile
760 is 10th percentile
