I'm in AP Spanish, but I think that I won't be prepared for the test. Is there anyone in here who couldn't really understand spoken spanish that well but still passed the test? I can read and write ok, but when they start talking I'm lost.

hey me too!
~85% reading/writing
~35% listening comprehension
but i scraped by with a C on my final last year, which would be equalivalent to a 3 (at least) on the AP Spanish exam.

well it all depends on what kind of schooling you got. maybe at your school a C grade could translate to a 3 on the AP, but at another school a C grade could translate to a 1 or 2. it all depends on what kind of teacher you had and how rigorous the schooling was. I got a 5 on the AP and over 4 years of spanish a 99 average.

My teacher is insanely horrible. I'm through one semester of AP Spanish and so far we've done a review of present and preterit tenses and the difference between ser and estar.....we haven't even touched subjunctive

If you pick up one of the AP Spanish test prep books, there's usually a CD of spoken language with it--see if that can help out.

I could barely understand the talking as well. When I took the test, the oral questions really hurt me because they spoke too quickly for me. But I could write/read a lot better, and i was decent in speaking the language for the speaking parts, so i ended up with a 4.

Do you have any local Spanish television stations? If you do, it might help you to start watching one of the soap operas - that was one thing that really helped me get used to the sound of the language, and the grammar isn't terribly complicated at that level. And even if you can only grasp a little bit, it helps. Or listen to some music in Spanish. :D Seriously, that can help, too.

But when it comes down to it, it isn't a huge part of the exam. So don't worry, and good luck!

Don't they ask you questions and you only have about 20 seconds to respond???? THat scares me, personally...

By Sir (Sir) on Saturday, December 28, 2002 - 01:38 pm: Edit

What do you mean 20 seconds? It was 10 or 12. Yeah, I took the AP Spanish test and it was so hard, but still, I got a 5 on it. The AP Spanish Test is like the verbal part of SAT, just in Spanish. Ha, all u gringos are doomed.

if you havent even started subjunctive yet, then dont even bother taking the exam. have you done past subjunctive, conditional, perfect tenses, past participles, present progressive?

By quarky on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 11:33 pm: Edit

OMG im a spanish speaker and i dont even know what the hell you're talking about.

By ha on Sunday, January 05, 2003 - 12:32 am: Edit

yeah, at my school....the teacher gave out the grades....and only 2 kids took the exam (both got 1s)

By Me on Sunday, January 05, 2003 - 02:30 am: Edit

We've done everything you said except for subjunctive and past subjunctive. Problem is I can't speak using most of those because it takes me too long to think about. I hate my life and I hate Spanish! This is America, why can't everyone else just learn English! If I were going to Spain, I would expect to learn Spanish, not have everyone there learn English.

By guey on Sunday, January 05, 2003 - 02:55 pm: Edit

well who said you had to take spanish u f u c k e n mamon?

By Me on Sunday, January 05, 2003 - 04:25 pm: Edit

I have to take a foreign language. Colleges and my high school say that. If it wasn't Spanish It'd be French, but the same logic applies. Mamon!
