I got into Rutgers University with a full scholarship...what got me in? Rank (1/220) and SAT score (1550) and thaaaat's about it.

By Quakerboy2 (Quakerboy2) on Friday, November 21, 2003 - 02:09 am: Edit

I got into MIT!
Last year.

1570 SAT (wow, I can barely remember), 2nd 10% in class rank at a competative school, Eagle Scout. I think that's what got me in.

By Congresssenator (Congresssenator) on Friday, November 21, 2003 - 09:59 pm: Edit

I had a 1500 SAT (800M, 700V) and was 8/481 with a 3.91 UW/5.04 W GPA in a very rigorous IB program. Besides the optional essay which I submitted, that's all they saw-- my SAT scores and my transcript.

Good luck!

i got into marquette (my safety), i will hear back from u mich soon, i applied ED to northwestern, and EA to u of chicago, three other schools as well...hopefully i will have to withdraw them though (in at NU)

what do think of my chances:

gpa 3.89
i took all AP's offered at my school (4)
5 college classes
definatly most rigorous sch.
ACT:28
ECs
ice hockey capt (9-12)
baseball capt (9-12)
policy debate with numerous state and national awards (9-12)
BPA with recongition on regional and state level and VP (10-12)
VP of my class (9-11)
VP of student body (12)
volenteer tutor
volenteer at local library

i know my test scores are low for NU and just a bit above average for in state at u of m but what do u think...anyone?

thanks

full ride from Northern Arizona University Honors College.... at least got that safety covered....

By Dohinc (Dohinc) on Friday, November 28, 2003 - 08:41 am: Edit

debate, I'd say 90% for Umich, and definitely over 50 for NW, you're right the ACT's a bit low, but your EC's are very good, and with your GPA and rank, you should be a good ED candidate.

By Koori (Koori) on Friday, November 28, 2003 - 09:51 am: Edit

jen--i applied to LSA like mid-September, my app was delayed b/c they thought i was missing something (but i wasn't).

By Iceshadow (Iceshadow) on Friday, November 28, 2003 - 10:56 am: Edit

when did you people send in your Rutgers app just wondering how long it takes them for them to notify my i just sent it in like last week

By Nitroxideracer (Nitroxideracer) on Friday, November 28, 2003 - 12:06 pm: Edit

A friend of mine got into Northwestern ED, but he's got a very impressive rap sheet:

35 ACT
1510 SAT
3.85 GPA w/ ~10 APs and 2 college courses

I'm applying to NU RD and I hope I get in. As for you, debaterocks, i'd say you have a fair shot at gettign in. You have a strong transcipt and that matters a whole lot too.

By Elgorila (Elgorila) on Friday, November 28, 2003 - 12:23 pm: Edit

Iceshadow, I got an email two weeks after I applied. Package came a few days later.

By Jenlikewhoa (Jenlikewhoa) on Friday, November 28, 2003 - 03:28 pm: Edit

31 act
ap scholar (3 5's on my ap's junior year)

Nothing to be to happy about, but the security of going somewhere is pretty darn cool. 1400 SAT and 4.3 weighted, heard on Nov 14. Still anxiously awaiting EA from Dream School... good luck to everybody!

By Cfineman (Cfineman) on Friday, November 28, 2003 - 11:39 pm: Edit

wow, looks like not very many people applied to u of m for engineering. maybe i should have researched this earlier, but does anyone know how umich stacks as an engineering school? i cant remember; either the engineering school stinks or the lsa is worse than engineering. cya

By Sprite888 (Sprite888) on Saturday, November 29, 2003 - 11:25 am: Edit

question for Royalchk, what is the selectivity of edinburgh and U of dublin? could u make a comparison to american schools?

By Royalchk (Royalchk) on Saturday, November 29, 2003 - 11:46 am: Edit

Aye, sprite. Edinburgh selects, like all British schools I know of, based on AP and to a lesser extent SAT 2 scores for Americans.

They say they generally offer a place if the grades are 5 in the subject you want to study and mostly 4s and 5s in everything else. As to SAT 2, they are not too specific. They also have some kind of affiliation with Stanford, so I think selectivity is comparable.

The majour difference between applying here and in Britain is that you must declare a subject of concentration when you apply, and I've found that my application was mostly treated by the department I'm applying to. This means that based on volume in one subject area, you can get decisions at different times. (For instance, I applied for pure maths, which has relatively few applicants at any school, so I got 3 out of six decisions within a month of applying.)

I'm afraid I can't say much about Dublin, or American schools really as I'm only applying to one here and have done proportionally less research.

If that's no help, I'm more than willing to answer more questions about it.

By Sillygilly (Sillygilly) on Saturday, November 29, 2003 - 12:59 pm: Edit

Girl- don't say 'nothing to be excited about' about U of I. First of all, that is an excellent school, and everyone I know who goes there (even the ones that called it a "back up") LOVE it. Second of all, I have a lot of friends this year who would give ANYTHING to go there, so it's unfair of you to put people down like that by saying it's nothing to be excited over.

I hate when people post a 1400+ score and say "i know, it's crap".

a 1400 is quite good. quit being so humble because we realize that your humbleness is fake. you know your score is great.

I got into West Point last month. That's all so far. From reading these boards, it seems like few people apply to the military academies. I wonder why that is.

By Sillygilly (Sillygilly) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:11 pm: Edit

No, a lot of people apply there-- but not the type of people who chat on these boarsd for the most part. Otherwise, why would their acceptance rates be so freakin low? That's definitely an accomplishment. Congrats. Where else did you apply?

By Bluebaron1616 (Bluebaron1616) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:25 pm: Edit

I got accepted into these schools, plz help me choose:

Clown School of North America (required over 1400 SAT! and you need to make the admission offcier laugh like heck!)

Sadaam Hussein's Fedayeen How to Become an Evil Henchman university. (No SATs required, needed good SAT Biology and Chem and Physics scores for obvious WMD reasons.)

Canadian Mounted Police Academy. (They are paying me to go)

American National Riflemen's University (Had to pass a test by shooting down two birds with one bullet. I solved that by sticking two birds together, letting them fly and boom.)

but I'm leaning towards this:

Univeristy for a better tomorrow ruled by fellow anarchist comrades (lol)
(All I needed to do was beat the game Freedom Fighters on HARD.)

I know I haven't heard from PSU either. I'm in-state and most of my classmates have not heard either only a few. I applied to Smeal with a 1260 best sitting, maybe Smeal is just taking long i don't know. I applied a long time ago.

By Spiffybrownboy (Spiffybrownboy) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:39 pm: Edit

Clown School of North America, without a doubt. I can see you being successful already.

"needed good SAT Biology and Chem and Physics scores for obvious WMD reasons"

obvious?? err... where are they?

By Disparat (Disparat) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 08:13 pm: Edit

I guess that's what I meant Sillygilly. Not too many people around here.

I also applied to the Naval Academy (which I feel pretty confident about getting into as well), Boston University, UCLA (I'm outta state. Delaware to be exact, so I don't know what the chances are there.), University of Delaware, Rensselaer (don't really want to go there, but got a nice scholarship.), and MIT.

I really don't have any first choices; I think I'll be happy wherever I go. The academies big advantage is the price (free. Actually you get paid while you're there. Not a bad deal.)

By Peterline (Peterline) on Tuesday, December 02, 2003 - 11:08 pm: Edit

so, no more dill on those psu letters and dates?
