I couldn't resist the temptation to come to the WAMC board and have random people who rate my chances. Applying to HYPSM, Columbia, Northwestern HPME, and UCSD MSP.

Stats:

SAT 1: 770V 720M (will retake for third and last time in DEC)
SAT 2: Bio-M 740, Chem 740, Math 2C 780, Writing 780
PSAT: 231; National Merit Semifinalist

About 80 units of college classes, including English, History, Biology, Chemistry, Political Science, Anatomy, Trigonometry, Integral, Differential, and Multivariable Calculus, Sociology, Economics, Music, and Psychology
College GPA: ~3.6
High School UW GPA: 3.72 (I had a HORRIBLE Junior 2nd Semester, unfortunately)
High School doesnít rank
APs: Spanish Lang. 3 (Grr... I should have studied moreÖor at all)
School only offers 4 AP classes, 2 of which were scheduled at the same time

ECs
~400 community service hours
KEY Club
Biomed Club
Academic Decathlon
Tennis Team
Politics Club
Editorialist, Independent Student Newspaper
Science Fairó2nd Place @ L.A. County; Advanced to State
Numerous National Biomedical Research Awards
Have published several abstracts (scientific) in a couple journals
Presented my research at few conferences
Work 20 hrs/week as a lab technician (I know. Itís not research, but itíll be paying for my apps and college books for afterschool classes.)
Other stuff that Iím sure Iím forgetting

Letter of rec from a postdoc I worked with who knows me as a friend, not just as a colleague

Iíll probably talk about this one weird time I jogged into lab at 3 in the morning, or some random thing like when I cleaned the water bath (no, reallyÖI just had lot of time to think in those 2 hours of cleaning and draining algal deposits. At first I was disgusted by the menial nature of the task, but then I realized everything has its place and its importance, even me as a lab tech as opposed to a researcher; Iíll word it in a less trite manner, of course.)
