I have bad SAT II scores [I live outside US, and do not need SAT. I will take Toefl, instead]. I was taking the test first time, only for diagnostic, and I will be retaking it, surely.
Math IIC: 640 [Too bad! speed. In Poland we have reeeeaaaally much harder questions, but also much more time.] Physics: 750 [another "too bad" I am good at physics, really.]
I would like to take Biology SAT II, becuase I am best in this subject, but I don't know enough english words, to raise my biology scores to 800.
So I started to learn words, and filling the ovals [this was worse... ] to increase my speed. But I am a lot better in scientific works [two ended, a few in plans, at the moments, one abandoned, because of poor impact].
I would like to study on Biology Dept. In specialization of molecular biology, or neurobiology.
--------------------------------------------------
As You probably knows, MIT reqiure two SATs II:
Math, and one of: Biology, Physics, or Chemistry.
I will end this in second post. Who will read such a long message?

So I decided to concentrate on my EC's and other additions.
Let me start, chronologically.
Education - schools
When I was a child, at the start of school, I had quite low GPA, relatively to others. [I had aproximately 4,5 / 6,0, this was average.] Within years, my GPA became competetive . I had app. 4,7 , but others had been falling down, and I hadn't had.
When I was ending secondary school, I got 5,53 / 6,00, and was the best in school.
I had was also a Finalist of Physics competition at the highest available level. I had 68 % from the test. I had been attending to course of genetics in Warsaw University [It is not common, actually it was second time I have heard, there are probably several childs in country, that do same, I predict about 100].
I was admitted to very good high school [5th in my city, I could be admitted to any school, but I liked my most.]
I had 36/50 from humanities part of ending exam,
and 46/50 from Math and science part.
---------------High school-----------------------
I became semi-finalist of international young physycists tournament. I made work about movement of water on glass surface, and got almost highest possible notes [5/6 and 6/6].
My grade average was better than, approximately 70% of students in my school. 4.15 / 6.00
---
It should be mentioned, that I am better in Science, than humanities, so my GPA is caused by dispropotion [I Had 5.33 - Bio/Phys/Chem, 3.00 - Humanities]
---
I have had a lecture about my drops on glass, for the students of Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw [School of Science].
---
I sent my work to Biology Olympiade board. School commision gave me 45/50 pts. [Work is about social behaviour in cockroach], I am participating in IYPT this year, and I have final of Physics Competition [Physics Competition organised by Warsaw Institute of Technology, for high school students] within few weeks
---------End of education-------------------------

2001.06 - Ecological action - "Night cleaning of the beach", I was the main organiser. I wrote an article to regional newspaper about this action. It was printed.
2002 - OWD certificate
2002.06 - "Tanzania" action. Collecting money for vaccines [for Tanzanians]. Main orginiser. It was test before: "Tanzania II"
2002.12 - "Tanzania II", because of the scale of the action, I was one of the organisers, and initiator. There was about 10 people involved.
I got about 1000$ sponsoring from readers digest, and about 50$ from a small computer store [that's what I collected myself]. the all sum collected by my volunteers was, about 1200 $. I have good description of this action.
2000-2001 - Completed challenging course of cub scouts leaders [lasting 1 year, 25% of people admitted has completed the course.]
2001-2003 - Leader of cub troop. [This is above 1000 H o work, including social work during camps].
I have third degree in scouting, and will end instructor degree before admission. [? important]
2002-2003 Amnesty International Member
2002 - now - MENSA member
2002 - Completed exercises in zoology in
Warsaw Univeristy, Biology Dept.
2003 - Semi-finalist of UWC
I run evereday for more than one mile [up to 10 miles]. I can ski quite well. I am preparing my peers for exams [I am starting].
I will have slightly higher GPA this year [4.3-4.5/6.0, it will be about 20%]
I will have at least three recomendations from teachers, including one humanities teacher. I have a kind of recomendations from all of the teachers in my secondary school.
There could be a little more, I don't remember anything.
I have talent to projecting machines, experiments, and creating theoretical models.
I was always inventing inventions, and probably I will be trying to patent at least one of them, up to three, before admission.
One more. I am 17.
--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==
The question is. What are my chances? What should I change? What should not be mentioned?
Thank You.

Wow. Finally, I've stopped to be the only one Polish around here
.
Your achievements are soooooo great. Really, I'd give you a good chance at both the schools. But admissions to U.S. colleges are so confusing to me that I'm not of much help, sorry.
And a little about me - I'm an IB student at Copernicus High School (Warsaw) and have applied to Princeton ED so far [but probably will apply RD to MIT or Harvard/Yale - I need finaid badly]
SAT I - 740V 780M
SAT II:
800 Math IIc
710 Physics [shame on me; I'm doing IB Physics but didn't know half of the concepts on the test]
700 Writing
I have some nice ECs but they're medicore in comparison with yours, so won't post them.
Good luck with your admissions! Bede trzymac kciuki

"[I live outside US, and do not need SAT. I will take Toefl, instead]. "
So what if you live outside the US? You still need to take the SAT-- it has nothing in common with TOEFL. I think you've got it wrong. Fix it NOW!
By Vsage3 (Vsage3) on Sunday, November 16, 2003 - 02:14 pm: Edit
Smac is partially right. SAT I math will be needed for admission (or ACT math) as well as a science and math sat II. In response to the MathIIC statement that it is harder, your test is not 50 questions over an hours time? That's what it is in the US
By Jszab (Jszab) on Sunday, November 16, 2003 - 03:00 pm: Edit
Yes, there is requierement of SAT on many universities, but not on MIT.

I do not have 50 questions in 60 minutes. I have a few questions in 45 minutes
.
Tasks are longer, opened [without choice, and usually needs long description.]
Is Verbal part of SAT needed?
By Vsage3 (Vsage3) on Sunday, November 16, 2003 - 04:41 pm: Edit
Direct quote from MIT's website:
Required tests: SAT I: Reasoning Test or ACT Assessment and three SAT II: Subject Tests—one in writing, literature, or American or world history; one in physics, chemistry, or biology e/m; and one in math (level Ic or IIc). Applicants without complete tests will not be considered.
If your native language is not English: You may satisfy testing requirements by taking the TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) and two SAT II: Subject Tests—one in physics, chemistry, or biology e/m; and one in math (level Ic or IIc). If you have been using English for less than five years or do not speak English at home, we strongly suggest you take the TOEFL as a supplement to the required tests.
Hope this clears up any discrepancies.

Is not it means, that I need not to take SAT I?
And one more question for You. How it is on other universities? Should I take SAT: Math and verbal, if my native language is not english?

That is the longest post I have ever seen.

No... Really?
Actually, I had forgotten few things:
- I am medical rescuer
- I participated, as volunteer, in action of helping flood victims
- I had a few minor competitions
- I was in a class board twice.
- I could have recommendations from University, or/and institute [from 2 to 6 persons].

I would be delighted, if someone could add opinion to second part.

11 th place in Biology Olympiad, level of state[district? population about 7-8 million] [in Poland], end youngest in district on this level.
Worth of mentioning?
By Jszab (Jszab) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 01:28 pm: Edit
It is really important to me, since I am only one in my school/friends/family/known peers that would like to study in US.
This studies are even more important, since I can not provide research here at all, despite I have good ideas, that were discussed with several Ph.d's
((.
No research for high school students. ;(
