(I think this belongs on this forum because its "what are my chances of pissing them off with a long essay")

Well if it says: "Answer the following essay in no more than 500 words."

How many words is too long, are they going to sit there and count (or will they just eyeball it)? Is 550 words too long? How about 515 or something?

Is it a good to cut something that is good just to meet the word limit?

Also, am I supposed to double or single space my essays?
