...as in harvard, princeton, etc.
i really have three bad things.
1) 1290 SAT
2) a C on one semester of transcript
3) bad AP scores
im hoping to improve that SAT to about a 1400 in december. realistically speaking, with ECs being pretty good to really good, do I even stand a chance? (btw, my essays are good, and i was told that by teachers, but i dont think they'll help much anyway)

Essays will definitely help much. They are important, and don't let people tell you otherwise. If you want, search Google or Yahoo to find the Time article "In and Out," or something similar, on college admissions. They used Cornell, Rice, and Bowdoin, and all of them corrected the myth about essays "only counting in close calls." Princeton and Harvard are still probably not within your reach, though.
