You're in.

I sent my application in a few weeks ago. What do you need to know about it.

By the way, here are my stats:

SAT: 800M, 620V (thinking around 1500 on Nov. test)
SATII: 800 IIc, 800 Chem, 680 Writing

3.97 UW, 4.29 W GPA
Rank: 1/316

Hope we both get in!

You're in too.

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 10:28 am: Edit

is it really hard to get into?

what university is it equal to in admissions difficulty?

Bigman, that app. is a real biatch. What did u write your essays on?

By Kkgirl06 (Kkgirl06) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 11:24 am: Edit

They take only 300 applicants each year. I believe the average SAT score is around 1430 and the average weighted G.P.A. is 4.08. Comparing this to your stats, you both have a really good chance of being admitted to SHC. I would say around 80% for both of you. Good luck and maybe I'll see you at Penn State next fall!

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 11:27 am: Edit

how do u calculate a weighted GPA, is it just add one for honors or AP classes?

By Kkgirl06 (Kkgirl06) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 12:47 pm: Edit

No, not exactly. Every school calculates GPA differently so its hard to say. However, your UW GPA is excellent, and judging from that I'm sure your W GPA is over their average of 4.29. For example, my UW GPA is 3.91 and my W GPA is 4.55. I would guess that your W GPA is around 4.35-4.45...way above their average. Don't worry about it!

By Bigman82085 (Bigman82085) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 01:33 pm: Edit

I wrote the essays on the invention (microchip), the character in my life (Beowulf), and for my personal essay, I wrote how moving to Pennsylvania in the middle of my junior year affected my life and personality.

What about you?

By Rkrisac (Rkrisac) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 02:18 pm: Edit

What if I'm going for a math major with a 710 math and 650 verbal on the sat I test, a rank of 7/535, and gpa of 3.88?

By Bluebaron1616 (Bluebaron1616) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 05:03 pm: Edit

i'm looking at shreyers too

I have around 1500 SAT

By Kkgirl06 (Kkgirl06) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 06:00 pm: Edit

Bluebaron: you're in.
Rkrisac: you'll definately be accepted to Penn State main, but Schreyer's might be tough for you. They will definately still consider you for SHC because their threshold SAT is 1350. If you have very strong other stats (is the 3.88 W or UW) you could have a chance. Good luck!

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 07:15 pm: Edit

I haven't started the essays yet (maybe i should do that)

tentative ideas

-radio
-Gatsby
-elementary school experience (theme of academic integrity)

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Tuesday, November 04, 2003 - 07:24 pm: Edit

can anyone tell me how you can join schreyers from Penn State regular?

does a teacher have to recommend you or something?

By Whzup44412 (Whzup44412) on Thursday, November 06, 2003 - 07:41 pm: Edit

Schreyers is a separate application and they are one of the few colleges that really require that you send in all portions of the application (teacher recs, essays, forms, guidance counselor forms) in one envelope. Remember to report your SAT scores as only single tests (not your best verbal and best math) Penn State and Schreyers are one of the few colleges left in the nation that only take your highest SAT score on a single sitting. Good luck! I'm applying too.

I din feel like spending the extra money in applying.. Penn state is my safety school, and well if i haev to go there, i'd rather party then think about the huge thesis i have to do by the end of senior year, their's no point, regular university park students can take the honors classes, it's nothing special

Can anyone tell me my chances?

1480 SAT 750 Verbal 730 Math
*Guessing big increase in Math come November Scores*
SAT II Physics 770 MathIIC 710 Writing 690
*retaking Math and Writing*
3.9211 on a 4.0 scale with all honors/AP classes possible and 30/343 in a very prestigious school (if your wondering how I'm only 30, there are 14 4.0's who are "valedictorians").

By Bigman82085 (Bigman82085) on Thursday, November 06, 2003 - 10:57 pm: Edit

Nothing special??? Did you see the dorms and facilities??

By Dolleykins (Dolleykins) on Thursday, November 06, 2003 - 11:08 pm: Edit

do u wanna have no life at a party school, the p building is good enough for me

By Bigman82085 (Bigman82085) on Thursday, November 06, 2003 - 11:10 pm: Edit

It's not like you won't have a life; you will just be working harder than most of the student population.

By Dolleykins (Dolleykins) on Thursday, November 06, 2003 - 11:10 pm: Edit

whyyyyyy?????? whyyyy?????

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Friday, November 07, 2003 - 09:07 pm: Edit

Schreyers dorms are not better. I went there. The dorms are like a foot wider than the regular penn state dorms. The reason they say, the Schreyers dorms are better is because of the other rooms. They have REALLY plush common areas.

Also, the reason to go to Schreyers is the research opportunities as an undergrad and the almost guarantee into Grad. school. It is 80 % acceptence into grad and 100% in Med school.

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Friday, November 07, 2003 - 09:10 pm: Edit

oh, and the thesis

This kid i know that went there (he joined soph. year) said that all u have to do in the thesis is write down the stuff u do in the internships you get as a student. Its not THAT hard.

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Friday, November 07, 2003 - 09:15 pm: Edit

a bad thing about schreyers is that the kids are pretty much the dorks. they are the ones that "volunteer" to pick up all the trash after a Nittany Lions game. Sux

By Bluebaron1616 (Bluebaron1616) on Friday, November 07, 2003 - 09:22 pm: Edit

No.

I have a friend there who was valedvictorian of the senior class.

He set the school record for GPA.

He partied till 4 AM then went to take the SAT and screwed up and ended up with "only" a 1580.

Now at shreyers he doesn't go to any of his classes, has a 3.9GPA and drinks ALL the time.

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Saturday, November 08, 2003 - 09:30 am: Edit

well, there will always be anomalies

By Rkrisac (Rkrisac) on Saturday, November 08, 2003 - 04:06 pm: Edit

that 3.88 I mentioned was on the 4.0 scale. My high school has to recalculate everything this year to a 7.0 scale to incorporate AP classes. Of course it's impossible to have a 7.0, but I think I'm somewhere around 6 there.

By Pinklemonade87 (Pinklemonade87) on Sunday, November 09, 2003 - 03:33 pm: Edit

If you want to apply to both Shreyers and main, do you have to fill out two separate applications? If you apply to Shreyers, but aren't accepted, do they consider you for main with the same application?

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Sunday, November 09, 2003 - 04:00 pm: Edit

yes, there are two forms for Penn State and Schreyers

I think Schreyers is a paper form.

because there are two forms, if you're rejected from schreyers, you will still have acceptence into main.

By Dolleykins (Dolleykins) on Sunday, November 09, 2003 - 04:26 pm: Edit

yeah penn state app - 50.. schreyer's - 30.. 80 bucks for 1 school? maybe if i sell my kidney on the black market

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Monday, November 10, 2003 - 06:42 pm: Edit

Does anyone know how the percent of acceptence into Schreyer's, thanks.

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Monday, November 10, 2003 - 06:42 pm: Edit

Can anyone tell me the acceptance rate at Schreyer's?

thanks

By Canitrius (Canitrius) on Monday, November 10, 2003 - 08:46 pm: Edit

300 people accepted out of I think 1500 people applying... I think thats what I remember hearing at Scholar's day

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 11:19 am: Edit

Hey, I just spent the day with Mr. Shreyer and the president of Penn state at the PSU-Indiana football game. (Mr. Schreyer used to be CEO of merck gave 100 mil to start school) Obviously I am in due to my father, but they gave some advice to my best friend who is also applying. THE ESSAYS ARE KEY! FILL THEM ALL OUT AND DUE AN AWESOME JOB. If you impress them with the essays and have good grades/scores, you are in.

Many of you may take this as BS, its not. If you want to IM me on aol and ask any other questions my screenname is Pdubaduba

Here's my stats:

SAT: 1490
SAT II: 800 Math 2c, 800 math ic, 730 writing, 720 chemistry

GPA: 4.9 W, 4.0 UW

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Sunday, November 16, 2003 - 12:45 pm: Edit

By Iamthewalrus (Iamthewalrus) on Monday, November 17, 2003 - 04:10 pm: Edit

did u guys know that SAT 2 scores are not even looked at in the admissions process?
