Hey guys, I know your all Ivy League kids but I was a slacker. It wasnt until this year that I got back on the ball. I want to go to uMass (@ Amherst) but I seem to be below average. My SATS are 670 math 560 verbal. My GPA is 2.8 (ugh i know). I have strong essays, reccomendations, and activites. Will my numbers really hurt me?

You should at least push your SAT score up, which will certainly raise your chances.

there average SAT score is like an 1120. and they place a huge emphasis on ur gpa and extra curricular activities/leadership. SAT's arent everything and just bc u have a really good SAT score doesnt really get u in at all.

even with that I think you still have a good chance as there gpa is like a B and they will like how you are getting back on track and showing more effort in ur academics.

i am in the same boat as you my friend...I have a 2.6 gpa, (the kids on this forum make me feel worthless) a 25 ACT and im taking the sats in dec. Im also applying to Umass Amherst...

I got in with an 1170 and a 2.9 gpa.

But I'm Asian, I wrote a hell of a good essay, and I've run three businesses. Plus I had excellent teacher recommendations.

I ran a web design business, a marketing business, and a software business.

I'd also like to note, all my businesses were post-high school, meaning I didn't run them while I was in high school.

Also, I applied about 3 years after I graduated from high school, I'm not sure if that hurt me or helped me.
