Ok.. I thought i was gonna get atleast an 1150 on it and i got my scores back and got a 930!!
I thought i missed maybe 4-5 math questions... so i'm guessing i messed up marking them somehow..
This is the 1st time I took them and I am a senior.
I think I am in some trouble for getting into a decent college. I applied to Pitt and Penn State.
I am going to retake them in December but will i get denied now because of the score or will they tell me to retake. I am also going to take the ACT on the 13th.
I have 3.6 GPA and taking pretty tough courses.
My rank is 35/240.

Any help on colleges to apply to or anything would be nice..
Thanks

take a look at www.fairtest.org for schools that don't require the sat /act. you will find a wide variety of different, some prestigious, schools. you may get denied or postponed. if your essays show your passion, the scores may even be overlooked. good luck.

What do you mean by postponed?
They'll wait until i take them again?
My essays are really good

Try taking the ACT; often times people who don't perform strongly on the SATs do far better on the other test. You have a pretty good rank and gpa, so I'm sure if you studied for either the SAT or the ACT your score could improve greatly. Also, you have several sports listed on your ECs- perhaps you could get in contact with a coach at a college and work on getting recruited. Applications of athletes often get an extra bump. Good luck!

You have several things going for you, your 3.6 GPA, writing a dynamite essay and getting fairly good teacher/counselor recommendations.
As for the SAT, you can try to spruce up your scores, but you will never make an Ivy unless you are a super athlete.
State universities might be a good bet. Why? You'll never get a scholarship and the costs are managable.
As for Private schools check out Loren Pope's "Colleges that change lives, 40 schools you should know if you are not a straight A student."

Heh.. I wasn't planning on a scholarship anywhere.
Well do i have a chance will Pitt or Penn State or should i just apply to the branch campuses and transfer later..
Anyone wanna get me a list for matches, safties, reaches.. That would be great
Is the Dec SAT and ACT going to be too late for applying?
Thanks

What you can do is retake your SATs and invest in a tutor--get a loan if you can, from your parents for about $750 and buy 10 hours of tutoring. When you talk to the tutor, ask her if you can take a mock SAT on your own--use a timer and send her the test marked with any wrong answers so you don't spend valuable time taking the test at $75 per hour while she sits and reads a book. That way she can diagnose your weak points and get right to work.
Pitt always seems to have seats open so you can defer your app there till a little later/.
Penn State is a problem. You are on the low side for them and the date of your app is very important as seats fill up early. My recommendation is to take the SAT again and then apply to Penn State starting with the SUMMER session which is easier to get into. You won't get rejected from Penn State regardless; it's just that the State College campus fills fast and you would probably be placed in a satellite campus with your SATs. Also look at Indiana U of Pa and Temple; both are in the top 300 schools listing these days. Also Pa has a lot of smaller schools; Slippery Rock, West Chester, Clarion, just to name a few that would love to have you. So you do have many options even in the state schools. Your SATs are in the average range. You want them above average. But even where they are, there are a lot of choices for you.

With your SAT score, I agree that you should hire some type of tutor. Or, you can also enroll in some prep program but I doubt that you will have to time to increase your score dramatically in time for December. You still can take the December SAT and let the colleges you are applying to know of your score, but some colleges require Rush Reporting in order for them to receive it in time. Look at the colleges application for more details.
Your GPA is mediocre, but your rank makes up for it. You should always talk to your counselor for advice. But if she is incompetent (like mine) talk to some alumni/people who are applying to the colleges you are looking at.

First, I'm going to disagree with people who are saying a 3.6 GPA is mediocre. From what I understand, that's around an A average right??? B+ average at the lowest. Anyway, I've known plenty of people who have gotten into Penn State main campus and had scores around where yours are. Getting into Pitt shouldn't be too much of a problem. A girl in my school went to Pitt, and she had around an 860 SAT score. And there are also a lot of schools in PA that would take you even with your scores. I don't know how far away you want to go from home, but there are colleges throughout the state that you would be able to get into.
