~ ~ Worked at Ernst & Young LLP past 4 summers after summer programs. I have a letter from the head of the office for each year commending the excellent job I had done.

I plan to apply for Stanford EA (it's mosdef my first-choice)

I'm also taking Princeton Review courses as well studying on my own to improve my verbal score; math is of no concern.

Since I pretty much have this whole year ahead of me still, anything else you guys think I could do to further help my chances of being accepted?

I come from a extremely poor urban school. I'm Hispanic (Dominican). I wouldn't need financial aid. Family income is well over 250k + my dad said if I get into Stanford he'll cover all of my expenses. So, What are my chances?

" extremely poor urbn school".
If your dad makes 250K+ why didn't YOU challange yourself by attending a private that may have a bit more rigor?

I'm not saying my school is all easy... I'm saying the majority of it is made up of new US immigrants, mostly haitians. There are 5000+ kids in my high school. It is the second largest in NJ. I am planning to attend Phillips Exeter Academy, Phiilip Academy Andover, or Peddie next year. In fact I am filling out on of the online applications at this moment...

The valedictorian from my school is at yale right now and he didnt' get straight As nor did he get over 1420...

You'll only need to take one of the math tests, and most schools prefer IIC.

So, you guys think this could get me into Stanford EA?

By Cmaher (Cmaher) on Thursday, October 16, 2003 - 09:06 pm: Edit

I think you will get into Stanford EA regardless of your high school situation. That is if you get all A's from now on and take the toughest courses at your school. Affirmitive Action is your friend, but you would stand an excellent chance even if you were white or asian.

dude, i think you have great chance at all schools

By Magoo112 (Magoo112) on Friday, October 17, 2003 - 07:43 am: Edit

Thanks a lot ^_^ I really needed to hear that I stand a chance. Lately I've been busy filling out applications for summer program (so early in the year)... I've been trying to talk almost any and everyone that I know graduated from stanford or taught there. I'm just really obsessed with getting in there. My guidance counselor told me not to do EA, but I figure it's my only chance.

one very important tip...do not obsess over stanford alone. Trust me on this one...try to find a similar caliber school that you wouldn't mind going to.
With me, I'm in love with Yale, but my chances are slim, so although i'm applying EA to Yale, I'm applying to upenn, hopkins, and northwestern; all great schools that I wouldn't mind attending

Well of course, I wouldn't mind going to Harvard, Northwestern, UC-B, MIT, and then I have a bunch of other schools I know I will be admitted into, but I REALLY want Stanford.
