I have recieved one patent in the past and am currently applying for a second one. The first one I invented in 4th grade. The new idea I am currently in the process of writing an application is a new type of electronis motor that solves many speed control problems existing in prexisting motors(i.e. amperage increase/decrease and speed of alternation) I recieved a grant from my town's board of education to purchase the neccasary materials. I now have a working prototype. Is this considered an edge or possibly a hook if I wanted to apply to a prestigious electrical engineering school? (ie CMU, Caltech, MIT)
Please give me your input. I'd appreciate it.

If it completely changes the industry or something, it is a definite hook. Even if it doesn't, it still looks pretty friggin nice on your transcript.
