Here is the deal, my school is keeping class rank for my grade for one last year, THIS YEAR! next year it would all be percentiles! 10% 25% etc.
I think my class rank is around a 5 out of 300 (used to be 2end/third but got shafted by taking a dumb piano class that counted.)
So should I apply like in May because I'll still retain my class rank and I've heard that it would help me, right?

NO, wrong! It doesn't really matter. If anything it will hurt you. Do you know why? When your schools sends in the mid school year report, they will re-assess all of your data. Meaning that if you report this higher rank now and DROP ( although not technically its just that ALL highly selective solleges prefer EXACT ranK) later on, then things will not look good. It is better to stay the same rather than drop in rank. I made this assumption that you were applying to a highly selective college, are you?
