Would UCSC be a good safety?

By Uschicka (Uschicka) on Tuesday, September 02, 2003 - 07:48 pm: Edit

I think you have a good chance at UCSB. I had a 1290 SAT and 4.1 weighted gpa and got in. But it is a very competitive school to get into.

I wouldn't make UCSC your safety. While it is easier to get into than other UCs, that doesn't mean it's a shoe-in for you to get into. You should have a definite safety.

Thanks for your help. But I'm worried about my low gpa, 'cause the average is a 3.94.

By Uschicka (Uschicka) on Tuesday, September 02, 2003 - 10:03 pm: Edit

That's just the average though, which means that there is still about half of the applicants below 3.94. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Wow, your stats are almost identical to mine! My dream school is UCSB as well, my SAT I is 1210 and my UC GPA is around 3.6 (not too sure). What are your SAT IIs? Mine are: Writing-600, IC-620, USHIS-630. I think we have a good chance. My sis with 1130 and 3.7 got in 2 yrs ago but with the growing competition who knows? I'm also trying for UCSD.

wow, really? I'm trying for ucsd as well even though its kind of a stretch for me.

wat uniiversity is ucsb?
or is it ucsc?

UCSC is probably a safety for most people whose GPA is greater than 3.0, SATs are around 1200 and SAT IIs hover in the 650 range. A friend of mine with a 3.1 GPA, 1360 SAT and 650/690/620 SAT IIs was admitted there -- and Davis, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Irvine and Riverside (though the last two are the campuses that admit everyone who meets UC minimum standards).

His ECs were more or less Mock Trial (prosecution)to state and JSA President.

You can do it.

Through this year, UCSC was an automatic admit to any student who was UC-qualified, as was Riverside. That will not be true next year for UCSC and the year after next it won't be true for Riverside.

A datum from TheMom who just got back from a presentation at a system-wide meeting.

Considering that I'm pretty much on the borderline, I think my chances of getting in this year have dropped. From what I've heard, UCs are admitting less people this year because of budget cuts.

I think you have a good shot. I got into ucsb this year with a 3.36 uc gpa and an 1120 sat. my sat 2's were a little higher (thank u the 690 for the us history part!). The thing that helped me was my personal response essay. My sister had a liver transplant and i hammed it up big time! This is a GREAT school, both academic and social wise. I think I've been drunk every weekend I've been here, lol. Good luck getting in.

That's not going to screw you over for UCSB
