I am a white anglo-saxon protestant male. I have an 1480 SAT (780m, 700v). I am guessing that my SAT II's will be (US 770, 1C 750, WR 700?(maybe)). I go to a very small and competetive private christian school (50 or so in my class). My school only lets us take around 2 APs a year. Since I am involved with EC's I don't have time to keep up with the work of 2 AP's because they are really hard (hour and a half homework a night) plus the other (honors level but not called honors) classes that I have to take. I have moved around a lot so haven't been able to be deep in many EC's except band and jazz band. The plus side is that I grew up in Taiwan and am living there now even though I am an American. I can speak Chinese fairly well. Do you think that I can get into Penn? I have an interesting world view being a missionary who grew up in Taiwan and has experienced both Taiwan and American public school (Sophmore year). How much do you think that will help?

oh yeah I have a 3.99 GPA unweighted. Except the one AP US history I have taken was on a 5.0 scale, but that is the only class that is weighted.

" I am a white anglo-saxon protestant male."

Might as well get right to the point, huh? Since you choose to introduce yourself here in those terms, I figure you would do the same on an application. Good luck. There's nothing wrong with being a white anglo-saxon protestant male---well, maybe a little ---but it's not the best lead in.

Being a world traveler and experiencing multiple cultures is a good hook---but you can easily destroy that hook with that in-your-face introduction. Lead with your cross cultural advantages... throw in the wasp I.D. later---but I hardly understand why. There are boxes on application forms where you check off "race" and "religious preference" if you care to. Leaping forward with your present introduction is going to make people feel like you've got some nagging personality problems lurking.

an hour and a half of homework a night for one subject is not very much for difficult AP courses. I go to a big, uncompetative, public high school and in many of our AP classes, there are at least 2 hrs of homework a night, usually more though.
