hi ppl out there, I come from mainland china. currently working in singapore. would like to know my chance for MIT, standford, harvard whatsoever.

here is my stats:

SAT I: 1500 (M800 V700)

SAT II: will take in october, estimate:
(800 mathIIC, 800 physics, 700 writting)

##Student Union president inhigh school.

##Silver medel in national physics olympiad.

##Marketing director for an unprofitable organization.

##Study in National University of Singapore(EE), drop out for personal reason.

##11A 1B(math) for my high school grade

#play piano, as hobby, no merit
#runner, 800m champion

my concernings are:

a. I would be older(20yrs old) than most freshman enrolled in 2004. how would admission officer interpret it.

b. Financial assistance. Since i depend on my own.

c. because it's already 4 years since I left high school, my high school stats would be incomplete.

thanks ahead

Swarthmore publishes acceptance odds of 1 in 13 for international applicants. Williams had 875 applicants for the 30 international slots in their freshman class. So that gives you an idea.

Having said that, mainland China may be more interesting to the admissions department than the average international countries.

Getting students who can pay their own tuition has traditionally been one of the reasons that colleges have been interested in international students. It helps offer "need-blind" admissions to US students.

Basically, international students are in a situation where each is evaluated on the basis of individual situations. I don't think that any of the conventional odds that are talked about in places like this would apply.

If I were an unusual international applicant, I would initiate personal contact with an admissions officer at several schools, not so much in an effort to improve my chances, but more to try to get some realistic read on the situation.
