Hi, I need help. I am in the last 3 weeks of my junior year and now I seriously need to decide on some colleges to apply to. I go to a public school in Connecticut but it is regarded as quite competitive and nearly everything in this highschool is geared towards going to college. However, the stupid college counselor doesn't no anything and was no help when i went for the conference this spring, she just printe dout a long list of schools and handed it over to me. Anyway, here's my stats. Please tell me where you think i should be looking at for colleges. Thanks!
Courses:
-All honors courses freshman year (English, World History, Physics, French II, Ceramics/Photography, Adv. ALgebra II) Honors
-All honors sophomore year (Eng, World History II, Chemistry, French III, Theatre Arts, Adv. Pre Calc) Honors
-Junior Year:
AP Calc AB
AP US History
AP Chemistry
English III H
French IV H
Biology H
*I am taking a Politics course this summer (graduation requirement) to free up space in my schedule for next year
-Next year I am taking:
AP French
AP Biology
AP Psychology
AP Economics
AP Statistics
Eng IV H (Rhet&Comp and Political Issues in Lit.)
*I am kind of scared about 5 APs next year, but I handled 3 ok this year and APUSH and APChem are regarded as the two hardest AP courses at my school.
GPA: 4.2/4.5 unweighted (my school does GPA out of 4.5, not 4.0 like most schools)
-Won't know wrighted GPA until this summer
Rank: my school doesn't calculate class rank until this summer, but I am hoping to be somewhere in #6-10 out of 370 (but this is just a guess).
SAT: (I just took it for the first time June 7)
PSAT: selection index 226
SAT IIs:
Writing = 740 (10th grade)
Math II C = 710 (10th grade)
Math I C = 730 (11th grade)
Chem = 680 (11th grade)
US Hist = 730 (llth grade)
Activities:
Cross country (1 JV, 1 Varsity)
Indoor Track (2 JV, 1 V)
Outdoor Track (3 JV)
Piano
Yearbook staff
Habitat for Humanity(9-12)-(hoping to be pres or vice pres next year)
Volunteering at animal shelter
Girl Scouts (troop leader)
Girl Scout Silver Award
Girl Scout Gold Award (almost done, will finish by end of summer)
So, what do you think? I know the activities are kind of light because I don't have any really special skills. However, the girl scout achievements took a lot of time and leadership, so I am hoping that will help my application. My parents and counselors aren't helpful at all. Please, give me a couple suggestions as to what colleges I should look at this summer. I do not know what I am interested in studying, but probably nothing involving a lot of science and math. I am really interested in Film right now (but who knows, I wanted to be a veteranarian a year ago, now i despise science). Any help is appreciated. Thanks for reading all this!
