I was wondering how much you think this will help me get into an Ivy. I currently (finished 10th grade) attend Sidwell Friends, a prestigious private school in Washington, D.C. (Chelsea Clinton and Al Gore went theere, among others). Next year I am spending the 9 months in Spain, living with a family and going to school there. I decided to do this because I have a knack for language (I just took AP Spanish LIT in 10th grade) and enjoy it. The school is Spain is not a regular Spanish school, but rather a consortium school composed of students from well-known private U.S. schools, like Andover and Exeter. Any way, how much do you think this will help me get into an Ivy League college? I think it will be great, as it will make me stand out. Also, there's no way I won't get an 800 on the SAT 2 and a 5 on the Language and Lit APs after living there for a year. Thanks and looking forward to your input.

I envy you so much - I love Spain and I would kill to spend a year there (I'm taking AP Spanish Lit. next year, my junior year). Anyway, yes, I think that would look great on your application, as it shows that you have a multicultural depth.

Even if it doesn't stand out (which I think it will), go for the experience, dude. Most of us would kill to study abroad. Do it no matter what. You will probably regret the opportunity if you don't. Although I'll be happy to take your place for you!!
