This isn't a cheat website, so tell us what you had in mind instead and we can help you make it better.

That isn't cheating.

As APguy said, that isn't cheating. Cheating is asking you to post your essay or write one for me. I am thinking of writing something about politics, but, a lot of my friends, that graduated from the program say taht I should just write about something safe, you know, something that everyone agrees with but just count on me to reinstate the facts.

So sorry, I wasn't trying to accuse you of cheating (yet), I just want to make sure the board doesn't turn into a "give me and essay (mostly admissions) topic" because I believe it should be something personal. I didn't mean to offend you!!

Politics though... hmmm. I can tell you that I wouldn't remain 'safe' as in you can find your topic in hundreds of books, but I wouldn't venture too far out either, because politics is not a (sorry I'm not PC) fluffy subject. Whatever you are trying to prove (and you MUST prove something) needs to be well supported by lots of evidence drawn from a variety of credible sources. You can't make it up. If you take too big a risk, there won't be enough research opportunities to support your thesis.

My last piece of advice to to make your topic VERY specific (as the essay is only 4000 words). Broad topics tend to introduce lots of good ideas, and then not prove them as there is no space to delve into the subject. So, say you were thinking "Communist Russia" - a much better and more interesting topic would be "The Effect of Russian Cinematography on the Stalinist Regime."

I lied. I have another piece of advice. Pick a topic you are passionate about, because if you WANT to do the 100 or so hours of research as opposed to forcing yourself to do the essay, you won't dread it and the paper will not be dry and dull. Infuse the essay with personality (imagine you were reading 100 EEs. BORING!! Make yours fun).

And NO INTERNET SOURCES!!!

much love (and my apologies again),

Sarah
