I am not your average college conf. poster- I dont have a 1600, I don't have a 4.8 GPA. But I do have some pretty stand-out EC's in my opinion. I am an accomplished musician and culinary extraordinaire, and have put these talents to extraordinary uses. Read below.

-korean junior in hs
-1450 SAT
-GPA 3.9 with A's and B's but 2 C's scattered about in 9th grade (C in geometry and english honors first semester- tough transition into high school i suppose)
-SAT II writing: 710
-SAT II US Hist: 780
-SAT II Math IC: 680
-AP Courseload: by end of senior year, will have finished
AP Euro Hist
AP US Hist
AP Stats
AP Physics
AP English
AP Econ Micro/Macro
-no IB or whatever offered at my school
-75% of the graduating seniors at my school go onto a 2-yr community college, not a 4-yr

EC's
-Piano teacher 3 years
-Orchestra 3 years
-played violin for 8 years, piano for 13 years
-loaned my musical abilities to the local senior home where I give periodic piano concerts for the elderly folk
-completed Advanced Panel for piano
-recipient of senior medallion 2004 (piano)
-two 2nd place finishes at piano competitions at the regional level
-professional cake decorator
-opened small home business baking and decorating cakes 1998
-started non-profit business making and baking elaborately decorated cakes that would cost $20-$50 elsewhere for free to the local homeless centers and hospitals where I donate them free of charge whenever they request them for birthdays, holidays, etc. for the young underprivilged children
-took ROP Pastry and Baking and am an intern at St. Regis Monarch Beach hotel and resort
-spanish club 4 yrs
-key club 4 yrs (12th- jr/sr rep)
-int'l club 2 yrs
-catholic youth org member
-service hrs: 800 total
-altar server at church 5 yrs
-church camp counselor 2 yrs

*SIDE NOTES:
-i show dedication and pursue my interests actively (in this case music and culinary arts)
-i didnt join every single club out there just to make me look good for college, i pursued what i was interested in
-i held down 2 jobs during h.s.
-6 AP tests will be completed by the time i exit high school

-now why i am posting is because i thought i was doing a pretty good job but now i'm not so sure after reading all these posts out here.

-do u think i would stand out to the admissions folks?
-please rate and list which UC's i would be eligible for. thanks! =)

I think u have a great chance to get into all of them. But, don't feel bad if u don't get into UCLA. they are crazy down there, they turned down my friend who had a 4.4 and 1400 on SAT who played on 2 varsity teams.

Do you live in CA? If you do, you'll improve your chances by a lot.

Sorry but no you won't "stand out to the admissions folk". Your stats are competitive, but you're not a shoo-in to any UC. You may get into Berkeley, you may get into UCLA, you should get into UCSD, but don't get caught with your pants down. Apply to Cal Poly SLO or UCSB as a safety school too.

lol. had to do that.
I think you have a good shot at all of the UCs. Make sure you write hella good essays, and get gread recs.

UC's don't take letters of rec - everything is self-reported

but you have a decent chance at all of the UCs. As highschoolda noted, there is no apparent rhyme or reason to the admissions, especially to the most competitive schools like UCLA or UCB. Check out this site UCLA freshmen Admissions for a good idea of how the application is looked at.
