Well I admit although I certainly never have urged my daughter to go for the big bucks, I didn't imagine that she would go into teaching until recently, a noble if not always monetarily fulfilling career.
I did however feel a little um...queasy at the thought of her college tuition (before finaid) being more than what she would make for a while.
But now I have someone to share the pepto bismol with, one of her best friends from high school , who is graduating from Harvard ( with zero aid) will be joining her in the "most likely to not make over $50K before they are 25 club", by beginning her career as an experimental artist/filmmaker!
I am very happy for them both however, how exciting to see all that energy and passion!
( movie recommendation- speaking of finding energy and passion I would recommend highly "Intimate Strangers" BTW G rated title notwithstanding)

Emerald, this is great news. From what you've shared about your daughter, it sounds like she'd make a wonderful and compassionate teacher. Is she looking at teaching high school science or college?

Emeraldkity- The good news is that your daughter can look into a program that "forgives" her loans if she teaches in a low-income (poorly scoring) school for a certain number of years.

What the heck, I'm 46, with two degrees, and i'm not making 50K either...as long as they're happy!

Emerald,
If she were to come to NYC where there is a shortage of math & Science teachers, she could probably have a few loans forgiven and get $ for grad school
