My school is currently classified with the following statistics:

30% go to a four year university

Under the current NCLB standards, we are on category 1 (the lowest rung) and 3rd on the lowest rung.

66% of our school is ELL (English Limited Learners).

Many are classified as low-income.

Our school is funded properly, but we are on the verge of being taken over by the state, and a few other things..

Will adcoms take this into account? We haven't sent anyone to the Top 25 (minus Cal-Tech and MIT, since we have our share of top intelligistia.. haven't had in a while though)

We are the oldest high school in So cal.. if that makes a difference :-P

We don't have much grade inflation, in fact, we have grade deflation... Our school is about 5,500 kids.. and out of a beginning freshman class of about 1700, 400 graduate, and 100 go to higher-level education in the college field.

Well, I'm not as versed on this as many opf the other parents here as I am working with my first born to get him into college (never done this before).

But, logic tells me that this is your opportunity to show that you haven'tallowed yourself to have been limited by your environment. Have you sought involvement in organizations outside of school? Where do you fall in relation to the rest of your class? What do your SATs reflect?

I would just make sure that YOU paint this as an opportunity, not an excuse.

Tlaktan:

Some of this information should be conveyed in the high school profile provided by the GC.

What kind of effect would this information have?

This should highlight your own accomplishments. Since you come from a school where most do not seem to graduate, it will make your own performance stand out even more.
